“Great Hotel at very reasonable price”
Reviewed 29 August 2010

Travelled to Riga for the festival in August and chose the Maritim Park as it looked good value at around £60 for 2 nights including full breakfast buffet. The hotel is quite easy to find from the City Centre. Having been to Riga before I knew I could get public transport from around Central Market and the No 2,4 and 5 trams pass the front of the Maritim Park Hotel. Tram journey from the City Centre is just 10 minutes although at peak periods the trams can be very busy. The No 22 bus from the Airport stops close to the hotel and if you get off before the city centre at the right spot is only a five minute walk.

The hotel is well situated next to a nice woodland park with some interesting old buildings and churches closeby. It's modern with plenty of parking available and has all the facilities one would expect from a four star establishment. The Maritim Park is a genuine 4 star business hotel. Rooms are bright and spacious with plenty of storage. TV has around 20 channels (4 in English) and wireless Internet is available through Lattelecom for 2LVL per day or 4LVL per week. The hotel has free wireless Internet in the lobby and a free business centre with access to PCs and Internet. Breakfast was all one could have wanted and comprised of a huge well stocked buffet. You have from 6:30-10:30AM to get breakfast and the staff come round and advise when the buffet is being closed. Reception staff were polite and helpful as were the maids who advised me that all public transport was free in Riga the weekend of the festival! Handy! It's only .70LVL from the airport anyway to the Clity and a day ticket for tram, trolly and bus use is just 1.90LVL. The food in the hotel looked very good and reasonably priced for a 4 star hotel. Selected drinks were 2 or the price of one from 6PM to 8PM nightly.

Other facilities include a fine resturant on the 11th floor with a fabulous view of the city, hairdresser and beauty salon, massage and aromatheropy suite and gift shop. The gym is currently being refurbished and was unavailable when i visited.

In summary a highly enjoyable hotel and a good place to enjoy 4 star comfort at a reasonable price.

This is more like a large business hotel located three tram stops away from the city centre (old city). We stayed 3 nights here and found the hotel average and very busy. Reception area is very spacious and clean with a nice lounge. Rooms are small but clean. Bathroom was clean with a good shower. Room gets very hot during the day (august) but the air condition worked fine. Things we didn’t like about this hotel are – noisy room, holed bedroom curtains, small room size, very poor and extremely crowded breakfast and not so friendly front desk staff.

We used tram to/from the old city. There is a really efficient tram service which stops right in front of the hotel and frequency is about every 3mins., only 3 stops to the old city centre costing 0.70LVL from the driver or 0.50 if you buy in advance. Taxi cost 3LVL from the central bus station to the hotel. It was a nice walk back to the hotels at nights and it takes 20 mins. from the old city. Overall our stay was ok but there seem better places in the city.

I have been to this hotel for a seminar with my colleague. The hotel was in the closest location to the place, where the seminar was held, so I booked it.
After opening my room, I was met by the heatwave, as the old block building accumulated tremendous amount of heat . The room had a conditioner, but it was located over the door in a small corridor next to the bathroom entrance, so it did little to cool the room.
There was a smell of urine mixed with cigarette smoke in the bathroom, and a cigarette smell in the room (I figured that out only at night after returning from the town ). As I am a non smoker it was much irritating.
You have to pay for the internet connection in your room, a free wi-fi connection is only available at the lobby.
The only two things ok in the hotel was breakfast, and cheep price.
Next timewhen I'm in Riga, I'll book nicer hotell.

An all-over nice hotel. Breakfast is really good, especially the oat meal porridge. Good variety of food.

You can get a massage down at the 1st floor, but don't do it. It's not worth what you pay for it. On the other hand, the woman working there is extremely helpful and nice! I would recommend to either find another treatment place in town or go to Jurmala (30 mins away by train).

Not very welcoming staff (some of them are), but once you ask them about something, they are very helpful and nice. Seems like smiles does not come naturally.
