Owner description: One of the most magnificent buildings in Town Hall Square is the House of Blackheads (circa 1334 and rebuilt in 1995-99), which once hosted a brotherhood of foreign merchants and now serves as both a museum and concert hall.

Recently restored, the House of Blackheads is beautiful. Adorned with so many detailed sculptures and other details. The clock, which has to be the most intricate clock I've ever seen (day, month, minutes, hours, day of the week, moon cycle).

It looks very new, and I can't help but wonder what it looked like in 1334, when it was first built.

Great architecture--albeit restored--but meticulously done. An interesting building and there is another in Tallinn--visit them both!

I have never quite understood what this building represents. However its most unsual design makes it a must to visit. Perhaps I will do a tour on another visit.

The building was totally rebuilt not that many years ago, and is a good example of a richly designed and decorated Hanseatic building. (Riga was a Hanseatic city: a wealthy port city on the Baltic Sea.) Reconstruction means the building looks a bit too fresh and untouched. But it's still awe-inspiring!

The House of Blackheads is quite beautiful from the outside but the exhibits inside the building left a bit to be desired. After paying the entrance fee you are allowed to view a rather random display in the basement, which includes some presumably old furniture and other random bits and pieces. There was very little explanation of the history and purpose of the building. Upstairs there is a beautiful but empty banquet hall and an amateur art exhibit. The whole experience was disappointingly forgettable and we left feeling that the visit was not a great value for money. I would avoid the exhibits inside and appreciate the House of Blackheads from the exterior.
