“Fantastic value in a perfect location”
Reviewed 20 August 2012

Situated in the old part of the city, the hotel is well located to explore this fabulous city. It is excellent value with large, very comfortable rooms & serves a great breakfast included in the price. The staff were very friendlly & helpful.

We arrived by train from Tartu, Estonia, and left by bus; this hotel is only a short walk from the train station and the bus station is even closer. Check-in was quick and efficient. Our room (305) was huge! I suspect many of the other rooms are quite a bit smaller. It looked like it had been newly remodeled as everything was in tip-top shape. In addition to the beds there was a couch, a chest of drawers, a mini-fridge, a good-sized flat-screen TV and a desk and chair. There was a hot water pot with a supply of instant coffee and tea. The bathroom had modern fixtures and quite a bit of counter space with a variety of amenities. Free wifi with reasonable response time. Several reviewers mentioned noise from a bar across the street. Well, the bar is apparently gone, at least for the time being, as the building across the street is gutted and is being remodeled. Things were very quiet while we were there. Breakfast was very good with a selection of hot and cold foods. The hotel has lunch available but we didn’t try it. One of the nicer places we’ve stayed, particularly for the price.
Tip: We can recommend the Café Miga, just down the street at Audeju iela 11, for dinner (they also have a set-price lunch daily). The Rimi grocery store on the ground floor of the shopping center just a little further down the street has freshly baked pastries and anything else you might need.

Room Tip: See if you can get one of the big rooms.

We loved this hotel. We had a large room that was clean, and comfortable. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. They arranged a cab for us to the airport on ck out day for only 14 euro. They also helped us with sites and directions. Very good customer service. Stay on a higher floor of the hotel as the streets can get noisy. Great location!

Room Tip: Request a room on highest floor possible to avoid street noise and music

We stayed at the Centra for a romantic break for six days in June. The only slight hiccup was on arrival, when due to some mix-up the rather shame-faced receptionist admitted that our top floor suite was now not available. Not the best start, but the fourth floor room we were given was actually really gorgeous, with high ceilings and big windows overlooking the street. It had just been decorated and was very clean and fresh (room 404). The bathroom had underfloor heating and the shower was slightly temperamental but did the job. There was a kettle and limited tea/coffee facilities in the room when we arrived, not always refreshed but we had our own supplies anyway. We found nearly all the staff to be polite, efficient and helpful. The transfer service to and from the airport is on time and well worth paying for. Breakfast is very continental, with a variety of help-yourself buffet food plus hot options which are changed every day. The hotel also serve excellent hot and cold lunches every day which you pay for, but it is extremely good value. On checking out at the end of our stay we received an enormous discount for the mix-up over the rooms, which we were very pleased with. The only thing I would say is that if you like peace and quiet, the rooms at the front of the hotel are probably only bearable late at night with earplugs (which we did have!). Great atmosphere, but the steak house opposite has speakers blasting out rock music day and night and it's hard to avoid that. You can also hear some noise from people in neighbouring rooms, but only the amount you'd expect in a city hotel. We loved the Old Town of Riga and can recommend (highly!) the Domini Canes restaurant near the hotel. Great value, romantic atmosphere and if you feel like death by chocolate, the fondant pudding does not disappoint! Would also recommend the fascinating if sobering Museum of Occupation in the main square, also the Ghetto Museum, the Jewish Museum and a walk to the enormous street markets housed in giant zeppelin hangers. All in all a great stay and we would certainly return to Hotel Centra again.

Room Tip: Room 404 is airy, spacious and a great temperature, but if you wanted a really quiet room would sugg...

This hotel is a delightful combination of modern comforts and old-world charm. Our fifth-floor room (a suite, really), furnished with modern leather sofas, large flat TV, and modern original(!) art overlooked the spires and tiled rooftops of old Riga. The breakfast is excellent, laundry service is cheap, and the hotel is close to all the major attractions in the city. The hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from the train and bus terminals, and the huge daily market.

Room Tip: Fifth floor rooms facing into the city have great view over rooftops
