“Nice hotel close to the old town”
Reviewed 22 August 2011

My husband and I went to Riga to have a relaxing, romantic weekend. We found the Ridzene Hotel throug the internet and read some reviews and it was just like we hoped it would be. Nice hotel, friendly staff, ok breakfast and all over clean. The hotel was about 5-10 minutes to walk from the old town, crossing a small bridge over the canal. We would reccomend the hotel to anyone going to Riga.

Travelled on leisure and shared a room with my 8 year old son. We travelled by car (used the convenient underground parking) and stayed one night, had breakfast and a drink at the bar.

The location of the hotel was perfect for our sightseeing of the historic center of Riga as everything was conveniently reachable by walking. Unlike the historic environment, the hotel is a slightly aged modern building, one side facing a major road, that has no particular charm but serves the purpose. The outside terrace looks inviting. We had no time to check out the spa infrastructure.

The standard rooms are small and a bit non-functional (no place to put the luggage), with big (unnecessary) seating taking up most of the room. When we tried to open the window, the outside chillers of the air-condition were too loud to bear it. Otherwise, everything is as you would expect from a business hotel: the place is well maintained and clean.

Unfortunately, the service was not as attentive as you would expect from a four star hotel: we had to carry our luggage from the car to the room and squeeze it on a very narrow stair down to the parking garage (no elevator). The occasional smile was rare - maybe, it was the result of the weekend shift? Also, in the breakfast room, it took some time until we obtained the attention of the staff. The restaurant recommended by front desk was a bit inappropriate when traveling with a kid (a club restaurant) but very good.

Overall, the hotel is good and can be recommended for people who do not expect something special.

I would certainly come back to this hotel. Nice rooms/bathroom, good restaurant with great menu. The sauna is fantastic, and the only one like it that I've ever been in: it has a full window view on the park below. Bathroom had a walk -in shower, always a plus for me. Very good breakfast buffet.

Staff are efficient but not what I'd call outgoing or friendly.

Free, very fast wi fi - always a plus point.

Riga also seems very nice (first time here): good choice of restaurants/bars etc, and the food quality is very high.

Room Tip: Ask for a view over the canal

The hotel is within a 5 minute walk from the old town. It is a comfortable, modern hotel with all the normal amenities of a Radisson hotel. The price of the rooms is very competitive and the restaurant is reasonably priced with good quality food. We went just before christmas and the christmas markets were in full swing. It was about -25 degrees at times so wrap up well and take good footwear and thermal clothing if you intend to go at that time of year.

Loved the hotel - beds were not great - but that was about the only problem. Great breakfast, polite people, very clean, very warm. €6 for taxi to airport. Central location. Hard to beat.

Stopped for 3 nights at the end of october with husband and two friends. Hotel is right next to the American Embassy with 5 min stroll through a lovely park into the old town. Cleanliness of hotel was excellent ! Plenty of food to choose from at breakfast, however, the only down side was the hot food was luke warm if not cold some mornings. Riga is a beautiful city but don't go expecting a cheap break as it was more expensive than we had anticipated. A Main meal and 2 drinks each for 4 people came to just under £100..that was in a 'traditional latvian food' restaurant so just beware. Found a lovely bar next to the swedish gates...Garaza...this served the best Latvian beer on draft and did lovely reasonably priced food!!! All in all we had a great break in a lovely city !
