Owner description: This charming maze of narrow and crooked cobblestone streets is filled with a mixture of architectural styles including Nordic, Gothic, Renaissance, baroque and Jugendstil, plus such historic sites as the 13th-century Riga Castle, St. Peter's Church, the Swedish Gate and the Freedom Monument.

We didn't spend long here but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We started with a visit to Europes largest market: amazing amount and variety of merchandise but my personal favourite was the fish market section. There was also a microbrewery in the corner of the fish section which delighted my husband!
We continued our tour after the market by having a leisurely stroll around the old town itself. Not hugely packed with tourists so very pleasant . Lots of very attractive buildings and plenty of small shops, cafés and bars to cater for everyone's taste. The local people were generally extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely time!

I liked the old town but it was a shame that cars can drive in the narrow streets, which distracts travelers from enjoying the medieval atmosphere.

.... through the old city. This is the essence of the old Riga and you will be rewarded with beautiful architecture, small shops, cafés, cosy restaurants and a calm and cultural pace.

For those who love architecture. One of the most beautiful old town in Baltics, after Tallinn of course.

its so very very pretty, so much so that it doesn't look real! Even in the pouring rain. Take a walking tour and find out more about the city, and then just wander around, it's really quite compact and you'll stumble across most places.
