Owner description: This charming maze of narrow and crooked cobblestone streets is filled with a mixture of architectural styles including Nordic, Gothic, Renaissance, baroque and Jugendstil, plus such historic sites as the 13th-century Riga Castle, St. Peter's Church, the Swedish Gate and the Freedom Monument.

Compact cobbled streets with surprises around every corner! Full of Latvian culture and museums, churches etc to explore at leisure.

Walking the cobble streets of Old Riga takes you back to a different time. Take your time walking and exploring everything you can.

This is very nice old town with wide range of different sort of bars and restaurants where everybody can find something suitable especially for him. Atmosphere always friendly and open minded, just remember that in accordance with local laws it is not allowed to drink any alcoholic beverages in public places!! Vecrīga MUST SEE part of the city! Very nice architecture, good place to relax and feel yourself like home!

Firstly, I'd advise ignoring public transport and instead renting a bike to go around Riga. The Old city has some beautiful Art Nouveau buildings (Elisabetas Iela and Albertas Iela) The cheapest beer I found was in Vermanes Park (€1.70 for a small beer). The bike is best if you hate walking on cobblestones (and you are allowed to ride on the pavements). Also because of the cobbles, don't put on your high heels although the sight of overly dressed-up tourists hobbling around is quite funny.

All in all, I'd recommend this city for a short break rather than a long holiday.

Enjoyed wandering around the cobblestone streets, the City Hall Square with its special buildings. Quite surprised to find a modern shopping mall with a big supermarket in the basement in the middle of this section.
