Built to honor those Latvian patriots who helped gain Latvians who fought several different conflicts over the years. Two armed guards are posted and march in front of the monument from 9am to 10 pm.

Majestic monument, erected for nation donation (1931-1935) and is showing Latvians desire for freedom and independence. Text on monument "Tevzemei un Brīvībai" means - "For Fatherland and Freedom". And lady on top of monument symbolize Mother Latvia, who is keeping in her hands 3 stars (3 historical regions of Latvia - Kurzeme, Vidzeme, Latgale).
If you want to see another masterpiece of this architect (Jānis Zāle), I suggest you visit soldier cemetery "Brāļu kapi".

This is an impressive monument to times past and the pride the Latvian people have in their country. Interesting to watch the cleverly choreographed guards.

Located a short walk from our hotel this stirring monument is located in the center of a majestic boulevard across from a park and a canal (or river). If you're in the neighborhood it's worth a look.

THe monument dominates the whole area, reaching high into the sky and topped with a figure that surely epitomizes the Spirit Of Freedom.
