i liked where the hotel was even though it didnt look like a hotel on the outside.
reception staff were great and there was always 2 or more on .
rooms were very nice, comfy bed and heated bathroom floor. the rooms very clean and cleaned every day to an exceptional standard.
on the down side:
breakfast was appalling.the booklet in the room read that the breakfast buffet would be varied everyday and the service would be excellent.coffee undrinkable spent my mornings drinking milk and hot water.nothing warm to eat so i asked one morning and they made scrambled eggs on toast, didnt ask again.last hotel i went served toast, small sausages , boiled egg and peas.ainavas was stale or hard bread cold ham, cheese ,fruit and cold pancakes and one type of cereal everyday.breakfast room uninviting like a dungeon aswell. the latvian people do a lovely breakfast called a farmers breakfast and yet all i have had has been horrible you think the managers would address this.
we asked for a room at the rear to avoid the noise (read the reviews)but on the second night, a tuesday very loud music!!dont forget to turn the minibar fridge off at night because it is noisy and the bed vibrates!!!
in room brochure it mentions internet available and pay per view films but none of them work and when i complained they just said technichal fault, so after 11 at night nowhere open for most of the week cannot even watch a film. better to stay at the multilux at half the price of ainavas and put up with the hard bed.
evening meals overpriced unless you have a snack.
hotel room was about £80 a night no value for the money paid would not stay again.

I stayed at the Ainavas back in June of this year and picked the hotel, in part, because of the rave reviews it was getting from other trip advisor members. The hotel is charming, the staff is energetic and helpful, the location is great...the problem is that if you get put in one of the many rooms facing the street, you will not be able to sleep during any night when one of the two adjacent clubs are busy. I am in my early 30s and live in NYC and like to think of myself as someone who usually enjoys the nightclub scene. The problem is not the ordinary noise that you would get from people smoking cigarettes and talking outside. The bars next to the hotels are dance clubs and the djs there blast music with a heavy, heavy base that reverberates throughout the hotel. Our room was acually shaking (at least it felt that it was). It is a shame because everything else about the hotel was special. Please be warned.

The hotel is beautifully located in thecenter of the old town in an ancient building.
Be advised: if you get a room on the street side, it will be impossible to sleep until 6am, thanks to a couple of «Clubs» with loud music.
Useless are the ear plugs (referred to in another review of the hotel) because you will feel the loud basses in the body, and your bed will almost be moving, like in an earthquake.
When you choose an hotel, the "option" of being able to sleep, should be included in the rate: is much better not to have a private bathroom! Otherwise, sleeping in your care is a better solution.
We asked for another room or for the problem being solved and we were told that, in old town Riga this kind of noise is normal: it would have been better to specify it on their website!
On the top, one night will cost about 160€ (about 200$)!
Avoid with ease!

Located next to Rigas Old-Town, all the sights are in an easily walkable distance. Rooms are nice, but basic. There is an discotheque on the opposite site of the street, so better ask for a room facing the patio (Out there is a lively bar, too, but its quiter). Staff is young, englishspeaking & friendly, but the service was humbling. None of our pre-trip arrangements where taken care of. None of our bills where correct, so better check twice on check-out. Breakfast-buffet was nice, but not refilled in the last hour of breakfast. Don´t pay more then 5 LAT for the taxi from the airport to the hotel. The drivers often try to get up to 20 LAT for the trip. Would always book this hotel again if my favourites in Riga (Centra, Bergs) are not available.

Excellent service and very friendly, English speaking staff. Very nice lobby with patio to hang out in. Good location on the edge of the old town. Rooms are basic but nice and breakfast is a bit on the odd side. I can say it is the only hotel in recent memory where they offered me a welcome drink on arrival. I would definitely stay again.

My wife and I have returned from a week end get away to Riga, Latvia. A charming city with a variety of architecture covering Scandinavian, Art Nouveau to classic german. The Occupation Museum provides an excellant and graphic overview of the struggles the Latvian people endured during the war years and the occupation of the communists. The Old Town is the place to stay for evening entertainment, international cuisine and seeing the fashionable people of the city. When staying in Riga we would highly recommend the Ainavas Hotel. The hotel was newly reconstructed from a 15th century warehouse and feautres 21 rooms, an inviting bar and a wonderful made to order breakfast. The staff are young, energetic, fluent in english and knowledgeable about the city. This was our first visit to Riga and we were pleasantly surprised by everything - we would hope to return and stay again at the Ainavas.
