Situated right on the edge of the Old Town, and two blocks from the Opera, Man-Tess is an excellent location for exploring and culture. Though the interior was completely re-done a few years ago, the renovation suffered from doubtful design and occasionally questionable competence. Numerous small problems show accumulating maintenance issues, e.g a loose lock cylinder made our room door hard to open, windows were difficult to open and close, a bathroom fan which made noise but little else left the bathroom smelling perpetually dank. Such small annoyances aside, the room was reasonably spacious, and the staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was adequate, and the location fairly quiet even though on a busy small street into the Old Town. The Air Baltic shuttle bus from the airport stops a block away-- a real plus.

This hotel is only 5mins walk from train station in the old town and 1min walk to the Lativan Opera House. The old town is small enough to walk anywhere from any point.

The breakfast was better than we had expected with lots of fruit to choose from, yoghurt, cold meat, bread, scrambled eggs and sausages etc.

Our room was very spacious, being on the 'corner' of the 4th floor. The only drawback is the lack of water pressure and the hot water took ages to arrive.

room is only being cleaned every 2nd day but that didn't bother us.

With our room being on the 4th floor, the free wifi was very weak. Sort of useable with a laptop but my iphone could not detect any available network at all! But if you're by the reception, the wifi is good.

Riga was very warm when we were there (mid August), the room didn't have air conditioning but the fan provided was adequate and we still slept well.

Overall, hotel is not perfect but the friendly staff and excellent location made this a pleasant stay for us.

We stayed at the wonderful Hotel Man-Tess for 4 nights in June and really enjoyed it. The location was very close to all the main sights. The room was large and clean. The breakfast had a lot of choice and was good quality. The entrance is very grand.

We would definitely recommend it to people looking for accommodation in Riga.

We stayed at the suite, wich was a nice sized room with a big, soft bed and beautiful furniture. The bathroom was nice, but I expected a little bit more from a suite. Helpfull staff and nice breakfast, excellent location.

I was very surprised at how large my room was, and how nice - wood floors, built-in wood desk, shelves, bathroom with marble tiles floor to ceiling. The front desk staff was amazingly helpful - several times they anticipated what I wanted to ask for! It's in a really good location, too. I would definitely go back there.

After reading many reviews about all of the hotels in Old Town, I picked this hotel. I booked two rooms, one with a balcony for my son and his girlfriend, and a double-standard for myself. Our flight was 4 hours delayed from Stockholm, and we notified the staff at Man-Tess that we wouldn't arrive until approx. 2a.m. They said, "No problem," and sure enough, a bright-eyed staff member greeted us when we finally arrived, and after a quick check-in, send us off to our rooms. The rooms were HUGE and beautiful and toasty warm despite the -20C (-4F) temperatures outside. Every morning there was a lovely breakfast served until 11a.m. It consisted of scrambled and hard-boiled eggs; little sausages; yogurt; whole fresh fruits; sliced meats, cheeses, tomatoes, peppers; breads (and a toaster); butter and jams; cereals and milk; juices, water, all the coffee you can drink--each cup made by a staff member from an espresso machine. The hotel is situated in Old Town and is also an easy walk to Center (Central?) Market, where all of the locals shop. It was just a perfect hotel for us and if I ever visit Riga again, I'll stay there. I highly recommend this hotel.

hotel man-tess is a great place to stay for a few days. it's very conveniently located in the center of old town and very close to a bigger hotel 'riga' where you can get a taxi at any time day or night.

stayed there twice with a friend, once in october in the white suite and once in november in the dark suite. both times for two nights (weekends). the white suite is very cosy and spatious at the same time. it has big windows on two walls which makes it especially inviting. the dark suite is very nice, as well.

THE STAFF ARE VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. breakfast is full and quite diverse and is offered all the way through to 11am!

the only thing i suggest the hotel management look into is the shower in the dark suite. the hose leaked and also the water pressure was very low: if you just wanted to wash your hair without taking a full shower it was practically impossible as the pressure only normalized when you held the shower hose very high up.

another note that i would like to make is about the car rental service offered to us at the reception. NEVER EVER go with QUICK CAR RENTAL. here's why. on saturday we asked a girl at the reception to call the offered company and ask about how much it would cost to rent a small car for a day (sunday, 10am to 6pm). they told her 32 lats.

when we went to pick up the car in front of the riga hotel the next day, the company representative told us that we had to pay extra around 15 lats because we were planning to return the car out of working hours (after 3pm). we protested that this is not what we were told yesterday (we clearly stated that we wanted the car from 10am to 6pm and were told that it would cost 32 lats). the company representative gave an uncertain answer and we said that we didn't want their service and would not rent a car at all. he then said "ok, ok", it will be 32 lats.

there were other minor strage things. for instance, they asked us where we would go and put the name of the town we mentioned in the contract. never in my car renting experience in many countries and from many companies do they ask you that.

we returned the car around 3pm and left the keys at the reception as negotiated. the next day i got an sms that my credit card was charged the agreed amount (but in estonian krons). ok, i thought, nice. the next day after that, however, i was charged an additional amount of appr. 15 EU. i thought it strange and called the company. their response was that we charged you because you "didn't return the car washed"!! first they claimed that we were warned about this stipulation, later they just kept saying that it's in the contract so whatever. i asked for a name of their supervisor and called again only to be LAUGHED AT in a smirky and self-righteous tone. not even a shade of apology or acceptance that perhaps they were wrong not having warned us upfront about this rule of theirs. VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL PEOPLE.

we called the hotel afterwards and told them about this situation so that they wouldn't offer this car rental company to their clients in the future as it would simply damage their own good reputation.
