Museum has a lot of farmsteads of Latvian farmers, craftsmen, and fishermen. They have a lot of household and working tools, interior furnishings from the time period.

I came to Latvia for a conference. I was not too impressed with Riga, but this place was great. I didn't make it until two hours before they closed, but they let you walk around the grounds until dusk. It was a little hard to find because of construction by the bus stop but this place was baeutiful and just relaxing to walk around in. A lot of artisans sell things here handmade for much cheaper than what you'd get in Riga.

The museum is situated on the suburb of Riga and the place is breath-taking: pine forest on the bank of a big picturesque lake. The weather on the day of our visit was marvelous, so we had great time just wandering around the huge territory, walking in old farm houses, barns and mills. Some historical buildings have special keepers who are supposed to answer questions and give information about the place they are in charge. Some of them are really nice and eager to talk, but one lady totally discouraged us to enter or ask questions and rudely told not to touch anything, though we did not mean to. Also, there is just one small cafe in the center of the premises, so it is really a problem to buy a bottle of water or an ice-cream while you are taking quite a long walk.
