The zoo itself is rather average, in comparison with zoos in other countries.

Quite a poor collection if you are going to compare it to some famous European zoo's, but still enjoyable as one of the richest collections in Northerrn and Eastern Europe.

It is a nice time spending close to nature and animals.

My daughter was at full delight! The Zoo occupies a large territory, so we could spend there half a day. It's a nice place for a family rest.

Take tram 11, from the city, to the end of the line at Mezaparks and walk the 100 yards to the entrance. The entrance fee was 4 Lats and I spent a good couple of hours walking round, looking at tigers, bears, camels, hippos and the rest of what is a good collection of mammals, reptiles, fish and all manner of insects.

I have to say that the tiger, probably used to a much warmer climate, really didn't look to impressed at the sub-zero temperatures and several inches of snow.
