“You get what you pay for”
Reviewed 24 February 2008

Stayed for two nights with my 4 kids - had two rooms which worked out at 11 lats each for Bed & breakfast.

Can agree with other reviews - location not great with nothing to do in the area but regular buses are close by to take you into the city centre. The walls are thin and the floors creak so the hotel does seem noisy.

Reception was excellent - perfect english very patient and helpful especially with my kids using the hotel provided pc and internet. Rooms were clean and perfectly adequate for our requirements.

Good choice of latvian food for breakfast.

If you want a budget hotel and are an independent traveller then this hotel will meet your needs, and I cannot complain at the value for money. If though you want luxury and a good location then remember you will "get what you pay for".

This was without doubt the worst hotel we've ever stayed in. It is nowhere near the centre of town, contrary to what their misleading website states - at least 5 miles outside. They provide a transfer service but you have to pay 5 Lats - when we got a taxi back from town they only charged us 3 Lats so they overcharged for that service we feel.

The walls must be made of paper, if anyone in the hotel moved, we heard it from our room. Got woken up several times during the night simply by voices. It doesn't help when the maids start hoovering above you at 8am when you're trying to get a lie in. No such thing as a lie in at this hotel. One lumpy pillow each, very basic room, sparsely furnished with office furniture which was strange. Breakfast was pretty bad too.

The only positives about this hotel were the staff, they were friendly and helpful - not their fault the place has so many faults - and the rooms were clean at least. If you want somewhere really cheap which undoubtedly it is, then it will probably do the job, but we would advise you look for somewhere more central as there really isn't anything around this hotel of interest. If you do decide to go, make sure you get really drunk before you go to bed or you won't sleep much!

The hotel itself was clean with helpful staff. The minibus driver / security guard was friendly and very helpful. The rest of the staff were not overly friendly but still good.
The rooms were spacious and clean.
Great little bar with nice terrace outside.
Location was 10/15mins drive from airport and same from hotel to riga town.
For the price it is an excellent hotel with a moderate location.

We stayed at Viesnica "Best" in Riga for 4 nights in the last week of December 2006. Allthough the somewhat "worn-out" neighbourhood, the Hotel was in very good condition. The staff was always friendly, polit, service-minded and spoke very good English, Russian and even Swedish.

Our room was very spacious with windows facing the beautiful garden on the back, with a comfortable double bed and even an extra-bed (if you're for example travelling with children). It includes a high-quality bath-room with a big shower that was very clean and had fresh towels changed every day.

The room had a quite small, but perfectly working TV with all the Latvian channels, including a wide range of Russian channels which I found very good, and even two German channels was available.

The only thing that is bad with this Hotel is that it has so thin walls, doors and quite a creaky-floor. This is not a problem on day-time, but in the early and late evening you sometimes could hear the conversations from the people in the next room and when people was walking down the corridor, the floor cracked sometimes very loud which I think could make it difficult to sleep, allthough I slept very good since I'm not disturbed by such things.

The breakfast was served from 6 in the mornings to 10 and it was really good with tasty Latvian susages.

The only things that could have been better beside the noise is the location, it's at least 15 minutes from central Riga by car/trolley and by peak hours the traffic is horrible to get over the only 3 bridges over the Daugava, and unfortunately this Hotel is on the "wrong" side... but it's really near to the airport =)

But apart from the traffic (which we could not blame the hotel for) and the small noise-problem, I would definately recommend this hotel for anyone from a family travelling with children to the more budget-oriented traveller.

Nice staff that speaks very good english

The hotel rooms are very noisy as all rooms are separated by a thin wall. Our neighbours came home at around 3am and their television made me wake up. In summer the rooms are really hot.

The service was always awsome. The staff spoke excellent English. The room was very tidy and the beds were more comfortable than in any hotel I've been - and that's many. Hotel Best is located just next to the bus stop and it takes only app. 10 minuts to the Old Riga. The Breakfast was ok, although the selection was demure. Only minus that crosses my mind were very thin walls. I would highly recomend Hotel Best to any budget traveller!

We stayed in this hotel in April 06 for 2 nights midweek.
It cost us £16 pppn for B&B in a twin room.
Rooms were very clean although the bathroom was tiny & the towels were changed each day.
Breakfast was Swedish cold buffet style but was good. We had one meal in the restaraunt which i found to be quite overpriced. As for noise we didnt encounter any & we were on the ground floor near reception. Maybe it gets more noisy on the weekend.
The surrounding area is very quiet to the point of eerie & looks very poor. We did go for a walk at night but had no problems although i was a little uneasy as we stood out a mile as tourists.

I wouldnt visit this hotel again due to its location not because of its quality. if it was closer to old Riga i would have no hesitation going back.
