Description: Restaurant KEY to RIGA is situated at the very heart of Riga Old Town right on Dome Square with a wonderful view to Riga Cathedral. The idea and interior of the restaurant came as inspiration from the legendary Latvian film "Devil's Servants", which is a story about Riga City in the 17th century, its brave defendants and the symbolic key to riga. Decorative ironworks, candles, pottery, authentic wall and ceiling paintings, wooden interior decorations and solid wooden furniture - all create ancient atmosphere in modern environment. The restaurant menu stresses the traditional Latvian meals, including snacks, salad, soups, main courses, desserts, and a plate of old Riga meals. The menu offers a wide choice of meals, including meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes. Try the especially traditional local meal - smoked pork shank with mashed potatoes and horse radish and stewed cabbage. You are very welcome to our restaurant KEY to RIGA for breakfast, lunch and dinner..., To celebrate and to feel like a king or queen.

“Latvian food... and more”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

Me and three of my friends went to Riga for a quick day trip. We walked around the old town, not knowing where to go. We were first pointed towards Lido, a buffet style restaurant. However, we want letters to our food so we walked around a bit more. Ended up checking the menu at Key to Riga and it was not bad at all (especially since we are looking at the budget too).

The interior was immaculate - with candles everywhere and a small wooden bridge that connects you to the inner room. The waiting staff were also wearing medieval costumes. Love love their attention to details!

My friends and I ordered different things - salmon, roast beef, pork, and chicken. They all came out at the same time, and the portions were hefty. They were piping hot, with a side of salad and a head of roasted garlic. The mains don't come with starch so you might want to add some potatoes (the mashed potatoes were divine). The prices? €7 for the pork and chicken, €11 for the salmon, and €8 for the roast beef. The potato mash is a side order that costs €2.05. We would come back in a heart beat!

Reviewed 28 January 2014

my wife myself and our son and his wife very recently payed a visit to the key to Riga restaurant and it was excellent, the food was great, the service was great [our waiters name was Oskers and he was very friendly, polite and efficient.the atmosphere is very relaxing and it has a medieval theme, whilst we were there there was a guy playing the loot, you felt as though you were transported back in time, i would use this restaurant again and again.

“Traditional Latvian dishes”
Reviewed 13 January 2014

What to say, this is real Latvian food.
The most traditional, as far as my friends said.
And, if you are not sticked to international dishes, really good.
A plus (for me, but may be boring for others):a duo playing Reinassance music.
Steps from the Cathedral.

“Quintessential Riga!”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

On entering we (5 of us) didn't have a table booked however they were able to accommodate us. The menu had a great array of varying dishes able to cater for most pallets and appetites! We were very impressed with this, however this is where the positive notions ended. The entrée's didn't come out together but in a sporadic pattern separated by vast minutes! My entrée was sitting on the bar top for at least 7-8 minutes prior to being served. The mains, again mine together with another companions came out even before I received my entrée which when stating so resulted in a perplexed look from the waiter. This unfortunately resulted in the previously mentioned mains coming out cold (they sat on the table next to us whilst they figured out the mystery of food service) when it was their actual time to be served. No apologies! Furthermore my three other acquaintances meals were also lukewarm at best! Given the nature of all of these dishes being MEAT dished in various forms, well this just wasn't good enough! When we complained the waiter disappeared for 5 minutes, upon his return he offered a hefty discount served with a side of total indifference! Surely we would have preferred hot meals however given the state of our hunger, time of the evening and the waiters total lack of empathy we went for the discount.
Dessert, tea or coffee? No way!

Good atmosphere, food that mimics medieval times, ancient music (live). However, long waiting time to be seated and the restaurant doesn't take reservations. Some flaws in service.
