The different rooms are atmospheric, but I was not really content with this restaurant. During the Riga restaurant week, Ambiente offered a three-course set menu for €15. As I was in Riga the whole week, I could compare; and taking everything into consideration, this one was definitely the least good of the four restaurants I sampled.
The food is basic, and lacking any refinement. After a starter combining chopped tomato, cheese and white asparagus, the main dish was a modest portion of bland rabbit with chewy bits accompanied by ... green asparagus. The ice with the dessert was of the supermarket kind.
Service was not very friendly and attentive either. I was reprimanded for being "a little late." Then, when I ordered the (cheapest) house wine, I was told this wine was "finished" -- but the convention is that if a wine ordered is no longer available, the restaurant offers a better one at the same price!
Even though this was a set (and surprise) menu, each of the dishes was put in front of me without an explanation of what was on the plate.
My sense is that this restaurant attracts lots of tourists, groups among them, and despite the pleasant art nouveau design, I would give it a miss; there are many much better options in Riga.
