“Excellent location, good P/Q ratio”
Reviewed 14 July 2013 via mobile

I spend a week end in this hotel. The single room I was given, in the 5 th floor, was big enough and very calm. The bed could have been a little bigger!
The bathroom is confortable, with basic amenities. Big creen TV with lots of international channels. Good!
Breakfast ok. Nice bar with interior patio.
Nice staff. Hotel located right in the middle of the old city. Walking distance to major tourist interests, bars and restaurants.
Goog ratio price/ quality.

what was good: mattress + pillows, location, design of communal areas

what was bad: unfriendly and frankly disinterested staff. we were shoved in a small and cramped, poorly lit room on the ground floor facing a dark, dingy, and small internal courtyard where people smoke (could not leave the window open as the smell would fill up the room). couldn't get to one side of the bed without passing through a space of about 10 inches in between the bed and the desk. Instead of art on the walls there were only marks and dents. The breakfast was very poor as well. If they advertise that it runs from one time to another they should make sure they are well stocked from the moment it starts, to the moment is ends. Also there is no wifi except in the lobby.... what hotel of this "standard" in a capital city doesn't have wifi in the whole building? They gave us a broken cable to connect to the wall instead which was useless as my new laptop doesn't even have a port for it (yes the internet technology is that old) Certainly the first time this has happened to me.

I really think we got the bad end of the stick here. I'm sure other rooms of the same type in the hotel are a lot better than what we experienced but the quality of each room type should be the same throughout the hotel.

Overall? NOT recommended

Room Tip: Do not get a room facing the courtyard on the ground floor. These are sub-standard.

I'm still staying at the hotel and feel compelled to write this review to avoid other people ever staying here! We chose this hotel as we love boutique hotels and this one had great reviews...when we arrived we felt happy with the choice for its position and the way the reception presented the hotel (although a bit small but a nice environment). Then we were taken to our room which we were told was in the B building and as soon as we arrived we realized it meant b clients! It is basically a different building on the back of the main one and as soon as one crosses the door can feel that the ambience created in the main one is over. Just an old apartment building which probably hasn't been upgraded since the soviets left (no kidding). See for yourself in the photos attached. The worst part was that the windows of the room gave on the corridor linking the 2 buildings and hence the room had absolutely no privacy nor silence. When I went to ask for a different room I was told with the most impolite tone that this is what you get if you pay economy and if I wanted better I had to pay 20€ more per night. I asked to see the room I would get for the extra money. This time it was in the A building but was no more than a flat hotel room like you could get in any 3 star chain. Although it was still definitely way better than the other the bathroom was so small to make it impractical for us traveling with a baby and to be honest at that point I wasn't willing to give a cent more to this hotel. Our recommendation: just avoid it!!!

For a business visit the location, price and service are excellent. The rooms on the 5th floor are spacious and have a hint of luxury - just a hint though. Wifi works here fine, bath tub is always appreciated. I would come here with family too, although a little more wardrobe/dresser space would be nice.

All the Old Riga is just outside the door and within a walking distance. Good.

Room Tip: Go upstairs...

Good, clean and reasonably priced but don't expect to hang your clothes in a decent wardrobe or think there may be a dresser with drawers. The breakfasts are excellent 'tho and the staff helpful. The hotel is very convenient for all that Old Riga has to offer.

The location in the Old City was perfect for us. The helpful and cheerful staff were great. The price we paid was excellent, considering the location, the time of year, included breakfast and size of room (we were in a 'superior' one, guess other comments about small rooms may be 'standard'). The decor in the room was on the spartan side and unattractive brown with a structural pillar in it. However the opening window, AC, plenty of space and comfortable bed with good quality well-laundered sheet/duvet were the main things we were looking for as you don't want to spend time in your hotel room when you're in Riga!!! When you want to sleep though, it's important to be able to get some quiet and the window was very effective at shutting out the noise when closed. The room also had a fridge, TV, iron&board and a good-sized bathroom with bath and heated floor. The only thing missing to make our stay perfect would have been a kettle and mugs for tea-making. Maybe more luxurious towels too. The buffet breakfast was slightly disappointing, as the orange 'juice' wasn't, the bacon was fatty and colourless and the choice of cereal was limited. However good black bread, plenty of fruit and plenty of bean-to-cup coffee and tea made it worth the money if not great value.

Room Tip: Higher rooms are less likely to suffer street noise. Lower rooms are more likely to get wi-fi to wor...
