The location of the hostel was very central and meant we were in walking distance to everything, However I'm not sure if the street was the best as there always seemed to be drunk / dodgy men hanging around outside - not great for 2 young girl travellers. However there was a MacDonalds at the bottom of the building so there was always plenty of people around. The hostel room was very basic but functional especially considering the price we paid.

When we first arrived, my friend sat on the bed and one of the wooden slats broke. Thestaff member moved us to a bigger room for the night and then bed was repaired by the next day - so the situation was handled very well. There were other nice things about the hostel such as free earplugs and a basket where you could take things that people has left behind (eg shower gel or books) which were nice ideas. The hostel staff were very helpful in arranging tours for us (highly recommend the AK47 bang bang tour for something a bit novel to do!)

Both the best and worst thing about Riga hostel was the location. The definite upside was how close it was to the train and bus stations (less than five minutes walk), and it was only a short walk (10 minutes) from the old town. However, the downside was that it is located on the fifth floor of a building, where the lift did not always work (especially late at night) and whilst you could walk up the stairs, there were sometimes some seedy looking characters hanging around on the stairwell and outside the front door. There was a load of smashed glass at the bottom of the stairs one night, and police attending to a passed out man another time. This was all outside of the hostel, but the location wasn't great in this way.

The inside of the hostel was very pleasant, with good showers and comfortable dorms. The only thing lacking from our dorm was a locker or cupboard to secure valuables. The hostel had plenty of information about Riga and the surrounding area. There was a good WiFi connection and two PCs, although the same person appeared to be on one of these computers all the time! (A 30 minute limit for each persons' session would be good!).

The service was mixed. There were a lot of different staff working during our stay. Some were very friendly and welcoming, whilst others were less helpful. The hostel was good value for money, and also included a breakfast, which is always a bonus!

Overall my stay at Riga Hostel was fine, and i'd recommend it to others but with the caution about the unpromising exterior.

The hostel is very centric. We came by late night from the airport until the hostel. When we went upstairs we saw some drunk people on the floor dreaming. I think it is safe however with you have a baby or child maybe is not good to see this. However the places is close to old riga to see the attractions and the bus station to go to others countries or places.
The reception is amazing, cool guys and attentive. They also offer free drinks as tea, coffee or juice. I recommend for youth people!

Extremely clean, well located hostel. I stayed with my family of four and we were very happy with our two day stay. Near just about everything one wants to see so you walk out your door and there you are in 10 minutes or less. The young lady at the reception desk couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful. Clean rooms, clean bathrooms and never a wait for them. The only reason one would rate this lower than 5 is because they don't know anything about hostels and compare this one to a hotel. Maybe the one negative would be the outside noise and the thin walls, so if you're a light sleeper and come just for a good night's sleep this isn't for you.

The location is excellent, which is close to the train/bus station. Riga is not a huge city to walk around, so it's quite convenient for backpackers. Since it's in the central place, keeping the window open during the night could be a bit noisy. The staff members are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is simple but fine. There are also plenty of shower rooms and toilets. So it's a good place to stay if you want to save some money.

We stayed there for 4 nights. Great location. Hostel is located opposite the train station. Inside the train station building there is a large Rimi supermarket - open until midnight. If you like junk food you will be happy - on the ground floor there is McDonald's. The hostel is close to the city center.
Amazing staff, friendly and very helpful.
Breakfasts are OK: cereal, jam, processed cheese. Coffee and tea are available for the whole day.
The price includes towels. You can borrow a hairdryer at the reception. Wifi is available in the rooms. The rooms are quite noisy (the hostel is located on the main street), so it is necessary to close the windows at night.

The hostel is great. Very nice desk lady welcomed me in the hostel and advised what to see in Riga. The room was very simple, but clean and comfortable. Bathrooms were available in few places. Mine was next to my room so I felt like it was my private one. Breakfest was very nice. Choice of jams and other vegetable dishes. Coffe and tea available for the whole day for free. There was no problem with leaving the bag after check out. I recomand with all my heart.
