Nice comfortable 4* I think?

About a mile from the old town, next to a park so quite good suroundings..

Booked on the net, and when I got there they cheekily charged me £15 a night for parking, which I thought was a rip off

However the hotel was about £50 a night so not a bad deal overall.

The Monika is situated just 15 minutes by foot away from the historic city centre but it's a pleasant walk through green, tidy parks. It's far enough away from the crowds and the dreadful stag parties which have often disturbed our sleep on previous stays in Vecriga. The Monika staff are very pleasant, the breakfasts superb, and the level of all round comfort is high helped by efficient aircon. Only one down side to our stay was no TV or room telephones due to a system changeover.

Hotel is well located across the street from the park, close to Old Town and along the street of the embassies. Hotel Monika is squeaky clean and well rooms are stylish and well designed. Bathroom floors are heated. While I was waiting for a friend to arrive, I even noticed that someone was cleaning the railing on the outside. Double Coffee is right across the street for those needing a java fix.

A full self serve breakfast was offered and it was delicious and would suit many palates including vegans (me), those on various diets such as South Beach, Weight Watchers. Dining room was well decorated.

Front desk was proactive in providing excellent service.

Highly recommend.

Had a great holiday at the Monika. We visited in March so there was still snow on the ground but it was a really good holiday and would highly recommend it, as we have to our friends. Hotel was very good, the room was spacious, clean, quiet and well equipped. The breakfasts were very good with a great deal of choice and the location is good for walking across the park and into the old city. Riga can easily be explored on foot and is very well worth a visit.

I could not find fault with the Monika at all. It is absolutely immaculate.

Good location - close to the old town but also the newer areas of Riga. Most things are within a ten minute walk. The rooms are clean and well appointed with safe, minibar, TV (with pay per view movies) etc

Decor is modern and very pleasing to the eye.
Bathroom is great with underfloor heating very large mirror and plenty of towels. Shower is very good with soap dispenser wall mounted. The water was drinkable.

Our room overlooked the glass roofed piano area so the view wasn't up to much but then we were on a Stag weekend so it didn't matter.

Plenty of lamps, wall lights etc with some good sockets on the desk which is handy for charging phones etc. Note: Latvia uses the same plugs as most of Europe i.e. two pin 220V.

The hotel bar is small but serves great beer with plenty of seating.

Breakfast buffet is extensive and not bad at all you'll find the breakfast area in the basement but it's well lit and very bright and airy. They serve until 11am which is great when you've been out all night.

Staff were friendly, well presented and efficient.

One thing to be mindful of though is that it does not say Monika over the entrance to the hotel, it says Viesnica or something so if you are trying to find the place remember this.

I thought it was a great hotel. I wish every one I visited was as good.

Just came back from Riga. We stayed at the Monika Centrum
Hotel, our room was a double the veiw was on to Elizabete Iela
it was a good size room with a bath and overhead shower . The breakfast was great, anything you could ask for. The staff were lovely very helpful. Old Riga is about 10 mins walk from hotel loads of shops and plenty of parks which are well kept. When there make sure you go to the Skyliner bar which is 5 mins away from the hotel the veiws are spectacular. our break just wasnt long enough so fingers crossed we shall go back soon to this lovely city and hotel

Stayed here late August 2006.
I think this modern hotel (in an older but compeletly renovated builing) has it all ! Great location in the Art Noveau-district, just a 15 minutes walk or 5 minutes tram-ride from the old town, very spacious rooms with comfortable beds and a large, nice bathroom, not to mention the extremely rich buffet breakfast. Simply one of the best hotels we´ve ever stayed at, and for a very fair price it was. Highly recommended.
