The purpose of of my trip to riga was a stag party so i wasnt expecting anything glamorous, not having booked the hotel myself, We arrived early on thursday evening having done the 8km cab ride from the airport, the front of the hotel does not look anything special but once through the archway you arrive into the lobby which is superb, check in was quick and easy as staff speak good english, i was sharing with two other guys and our room was on the 4th floor, on entering our room which was clean their was 3 single beds wardrobe, desk, mini bar and plasma tv. The bathroom was again clean, the shower was fast and had hot water it was a bit small (but then i am a big man), Note to familys or easily affended people when we switched our tv it went straight to the porn channel. The hotel was attached to a japanesse bar and resturant (which doubled as the breakfast room) beware of drink prices though we paid 20 lats for 4 beers 2 teas and 2 coffees which is about 26 pounds. Breakfast was great with lots of choice including fry ups cereals and toast etc. As for Riga itself local beer is roughly the same price as england but it bepends where you go beware of stripp clubs and bars alike as they are expensive, Overall i would reccomend thehotel for location and cleanliness and staff where very helpfull with our requests.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a receptionist that spoke perfect English. The lobby was immaculately clean and well decorated.
We went to our romm a triple room on the 2nd floor. Basic enough with good sized bathroom and tv and fridge/minbar.
The location of this hotel is perfect to discover Riga.
Taxis nearby but you would not need them with this base as a location.
We did not eat in the adjoining restaurant but had an expenxive beer(4 Lats).
The recptionist on night duty really was so friendly and helpful.
The security staff did not bother us despite or late comings and goings.
The pubs and night clubs close by are all good and friendy.
Nautilus Night Club on Kunga iela has to be visited. Great night there

Was very disappointed with what is supposedly a 4 star hotel. The lobby area is very fancy but does not reflect what it's like in the rest of the hotel. When we arrived Eminem was blaring out from a sound system somewhere, which was a bit bizarre (I quite like Eminem but not in a hotel lobby!). The reception staff were fairly friendly but the room was absolutely awful. Really small, and more like a corridor. Our 2 (very small) single beds were opposite each other, end to end, (not touching but not far off) and there was only a metre or so of space from there to the other side of the room. The wardrobe was pathetic (barely enough for one person who travels light!), the bathroom was tiny and they had hardly any of the facilities I would expect from a four star hotel (at the very least a safe, decent toilet paper and more than 1 flat pillow each). We asked to be moved but was told the hotel was full. The breakfast wasn't too bad, but some fresh fruit (other than whole apples and kiwi fruit) would have been nice. The best bit was the porridge! The only positive about this hotel was the location. I've heard there are larger twin rooms available so if you are definitely going to stay here it'd be worth insisting on one of those. Oh, and those of a nervous disposition need to beware of the hard-core porn on the TV!

Very impressed with this modern, spotless, hotel which is in the old city and minutes walk to many of the most interesting attractions. I got a single room for Euro 65 per night. The room was a nice size and had an en-suite and television. It was bright and expensively furnished. Price included an excellent buffet breakfast with a large large choice of items. The bar is open till late - until last person leaves. There is a nice asian restaurant also for night time eating and the staff here are very friendly; prices are good and food is really tasty. If you are a SOLO traveller it hard to beat the sigle room rate and value for money offered by this hotel.

Hhhmm, was expecting so much more. On arrival, we were greeted by indifferent staff. We opened the door to what can only be described as a box room! Two single beds and minimal furniture, with no air conditioning (it was over 25 degrees when we stayed and horribly hot in the room). We were not impressed and wondered how this hotel can be classed as a four star. The room felt almost like a prison cell.

On the plus side it is slap, bang in the middle of the old town, and the breakfast is OK.

The hotel seems to have lavished all its attention on the public areas which were quite showy and overstated but not bothered with the rooms.

Stayed here for 2 nights on a 2 centre break with Baltic Holidays.
The location could not be better for sight-seeing in Riga, its right next to the Town Hall Square behind the House Of Blackheads which was rebuild in 2001 in all it's glory to commemorate the city's 800th anniversary.
The hotel was opened in 2007 in a 19th century building. There are lots of ornate pieces of furniture and gold finishes, light fittings etc, in the reception area.
Reception staff were polite and helpful at check-in.
We had a twin room at the front of the hotel, the main problem is that it was tiny - def only a single, we opened the large window which did allow a lot of street noise in just to help us feel a little less claustrophobic. The bathroom was fine, with just a shower no bath, but again the shower was tiny, it was a corner unit in a triangular shape so that you lost a lot of space.
The beds were comfortable though, there was no air-conditioning so it would have felt extremely hot in warm weather.

Breakfast was ok, served in a bar-area which didn't seem to be used as a bar, the best thing about it was the delicious porridge, the other cereal was not too palatable looking. The only fruit was tinned peaches. There was also cheese, cold meat etc and bacon eggs etc also but we didn't try those. Breakfast overall was adequate with some good bits, there was a good selection of teas available - you helped yourself, using a teabag and hot water.

Overall an adequate hotel for a short stay, the hotel also has family apartments, junior suite and suite rooms, with saunas, jacuzzi and roof-top views. I should imagine these are much better in regards to space.

We spent a long weekend in Riga in June 2008. Based on the previous reviews and the acceptable price we chose to stay at the Garden Palace Hotel and were not disappointed.

Riga turned out be be a beautiful and atmospheric town and we enjoyed our stay there very much.

The Garden Palace is located centrally in Old Town and everything was within easy walking distance. The hotel is rated a 4* on booking.com. It is in a historic building and has a classical feeling to it. Our room on the 4th floor was spacious enough, clean and quiet with windows opening to the inner yard. Beds were comfortable, however not as great as in chains like Hilton or Marriott. Bathroom was clean as well.

Breakfast buffet was tasty, with plenty of warm and cold choices. The only difficult thing is the size of the breakfast room, which is rather small and cosy. Finding a table was not always easy.

As everything was going smoothly we did not have any special interaction with the hotel personnel. However we felt very welcome during the whole stay.

All in all, we had a very pleasent stay and we we will gladly return to this hotel the next time we visit Riga (which is I hope soon !)
