Perfect hotel for short city break on a budget, good value, clean and comfortable rooms with buffet breakfast.

The hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood outside the hustle and bustle of the old town but still within walking distance. The streets were very quiet on the walks back to the hotel of an evening I felt safe but I'm not sure how safe solo female traveller(s) would feel.

Beer in the hotel bar was quite expensive in comparison to many other places we drank in Riga (worked out just under £4 a pint) there was a nice outside bar terrace where you could enjoy your drinks in the sunshine and there was a chef preparing BBQ food we didn't have any but it looked good as it past us.

Staff were all very friendly and spoke good English.

There is a luggage room to store your luggage after check out if you are catching a later flight/coach/train.

It was very hot during our stay so it was nice to be able to open the window without being disturbed by outside noise (being in a quieter area) the windows also have shutters to prevent access from unwanted insects). Unfortunately there are no fridges in the rooms so nowhere to keep drinks cold which would have been most welcome in the summer heat. (in fact I found it pretty hard to find a nice cold drink in any of the retailers in Riga who don't seem to run their fridges very cold at all).

I strongly advise a trip to Lido for dinner just outside the city a fab experience and great food, there's also a few rides to keep the kids happy.

Overall a pleasant stay.

This is a great, value for money, three star hotel situated about a fifteen minute walk from the Old Town. I stayed here for 3 nights in February and couldn’t really fault it for the price. I arrived by plane and took the airport bus [number 22] into town for 70 santims [LVL0.70]. To get to the hotel you can either get off at the Stockmann department store and walk through the market or the next stop just under the railway bridge on Gogola street. The hotel is a five minute walk from either stop. The neighbourhood is a little down at heel and there isn’t much going on in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. However, the area felt safe, even at night, and I found a great little bar just around the corner on Gogola called “Banuzis”. They had a ‘happy hour’ each day from 17.00-19.00hrs when half a litre of lager costs just 50 santims [LVL0.50]. The regular price was only 80 santims [LVL0.80] which still seemed cheap when compared to most other bars in Riga's Old Town where prices were double that or more. Finally, I’d like to complement the hotel on its customer service. The girls on reception were friendly and helpful and, when my flight home was cancelled due to the snow, as a goodwill gesture they knocked 25% off the room rate for the extra night.

Hanza hotel is a great value for the money. It has clean and tiny rooms. The area is really quiet, so your rest is guaranteed.
You have to walk 5 blocks to the old town, which is not that bad. try to walk along big avenues because you dont see anybody on the street at 3 am.
The staff is friendly and the breakfast is just decent.
Overall, good value for the money and the location is not bad.
I would come back there.

Service was excellent, staff were very polite and helpful. Breakfast includes something for everyone. Location was good. Only minus are thin room walls. This won't be the problem if everybody recognize this issue and behave accordingly.

Stayed here as part of an Air Baltic package. Nice modern hotel. The room I had was quite spacious but for some reason had two very small single beds. The bathroom was OK. No tub but an excellent shower. The hotel walls are thin and any noise carries easily. Breakfast was OK but as has already been said on here if you get a lot of people in at one time it gets pretty crowded. The evening meals were very good. Can't really complain about anything (except the weather).Nice hotel. Good location and excellent service with a good free WiFi.

This hotel was a nice surprise. Rooms have the "new and clean" look, modern and very nicely decorated. The hotel is very quiet next to an old wooden church. Surrounding street seem a bit deserted but I was not feeling uneasy walking there at night. Nice staff. The breakfast room is on a small side, so it gets packed during peak times. It may be a little bit uncomfortable when you are a single traveller and have to share a table with strangers...

The staff don't understand the meaning of early take-away breakfast... all you get is box filled with slices of ham and bits of cheese.
