“We liked it!”
Reviewed 21 July 2011

The hanza hotel was a real bargain. Clean, welcoming and fairly central. To be honest it's not in the nicest part of town (AltHough I quite liked the imposing Soviet empire state building down the road) but it's a short walk to the Old Town and the value makes it a definite find.
I would recommend this to anyone planning a trip to Riga on a budget!

I stayed at Hanza Hotel for a night during my visit to Riga. Apparently the hotel was fully booked as there were no spare rooms when I arrived in the morning before the check-in time. The staff was very friendly and agreed to keep my luggage until the actual check-in.

My double room was modern, spacious, luminous and well-furnished. The bathroom was small but spotless. The hotel offered free WiFi. At the reception I was given a discount coupon valid for an adjacent pub. In the morning, complimentary buffet breakfast was served in a pleasant restaurant located on the hotel ground floor. The rich and tasty breakfast included omelet with bacon, sausages, different sorts of cheese and ham, cereals, cakes, croissants, butter, jam, milk, juices, coffee and tea.

The definite advantage for me was the hotel's location. Bus stop with public transport going to the Riga International Airport is only a 5-7 mins walk from the hotel which was very handy as I had to fly out the next morning. Moreover, it is located close to the train station and coach station where Eurolines bus calls at. The Riga Old Town with main sights is not far either. The Hanza Hotel is just few hundred meters away from Stockman shopping mall where you can find restaurants and cinema.

Besides the mentioned, the Hanza hotel offers an excellent value for money and I totally recommend it!

The stay at Hotel Hanza in Riga was a pleasant experience. We paid around 45 EUR for a 2 person room and stayed for one night.

The hotel is situated a 10-15 minute walk away from the old town, on the east side of town. There is a church and an embassy right next to the hotel, so the neighbourhood is very calm. We arrived by car and there were plenty of free parking space around the hotel.

The room was quite small, but was clean and had all the stuff we needed for a short stay (hairdryer etc.). Free wifi as well, and it was actually working! Our room was on the first floor with a view to the back yard, so no big cheers there.

Breakfast was included in the room price and could be described as sufficient. A very basic breakfast buffet with bread+condiments, warm sausages/omelette and juices/coffee/tea.

Staff was very helpful both at check-in/check-out and breakfast so the service was very good!

Hanza can be recommended for short stays (small rooms can cause issues on longer stays) as the price/quality ratio is excellent!

Stay here 2 nights with my family on a short Riga vacation. We booked the hotel in advance and payed a very good price. 2 double rooms for 2 nights including breakfast for round about 100 Euro. So you can`t stay cheaper and better. The hotel itself is located a bit upside of the main city center. (next to a nice wooden church) it is complete new renovated and designed in a fresh and modern stile. The front desk team is very helpful and the checkin is done in minutes. The rooms are modern, clean and friendly. You feel directly at home and also have enough space. Sure the LCD TV isn`t the biggest one but I am not on vacation to watch movies. The hotel offer free W-Lan.
We walked every day from the hotel to the main city (old town of Riga etc.) without any issue. The nights are very silent and the breakfast in the morning was served in the restaurant, what is a bit dark and could need some more light. (the issue is thats located in the basement of the hotel). The breakfast itself is ok for the price. On the last evening we eat our dinner at the restaurant the food itself was great (and have again a good value) but the service stuff in the restaurant looks a bit shy and so it seems they are bit unfriendly. All in all a great hotel for an awesome stay.

Perfect hotel for short city break on a budget, good value, clean and comfortable rooms with buffet breakfast.

The hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood outside the hustle and bustle of the old town but still within walking distance. The streets were very quiet on the walks back to the hotel of an evening I felt safe but I'm not sure how safe solo female traveller(s) would feel.

Beer in the hotel bar was quite expensive in comparison to many other places we drank in Riga (worked out just under £4 a pint) there was a nice outside bar terrace where you could enjoy your drinks in the sunshine and there was a chef preparing BBQ food we didn't have any but it looked good as it past us.

Staff were all very friendly and spoke good English.

There is a luggage room to store your luggage after check out if you are catching a later flight/coach/train.

It was very hot during our stay so it was nice to be able to open the window without being disturbed by outside noise (being in a quieter area) the windows also have shutters to prevent access from unwanted insects). Unfortunately there are no fridges in the rooms so nowhere to keep drinks cold which would have been most welcome in the summer heat. (in fact I found it pretty hard to find a nice cold drink in any of the retailers in Riga who don't seem to run their fridges very cold at all).

I strongly advise a trip to Lido for dinner just outside the city a fab experience and great food, there's also a few rides to keep the kids happy.

Overall a pleasant stay.

This is a great, value for money, three star hotel situated about a fifteen minute walk from the Old Town. I stayed here for 3 nights in February and couldn’t really fault it for the price. I arrived by plane and took the airport bus [number 22] into town for 70 santims [LVL0.70]. To get to the hotel you can either get off at the Stockmann department store and walk through the market or the next stop just under the railway bridge on Gogola street. The hotel is a five minute walk from either stop. The neighbourhood is a little down at heel and there isn’t much going on in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. However, the area felt safe, even at night, and I found a great little bar just around the corner on Gogola called “Banuzis”. They had a ‘happy hour’ each day from 17.00-19.00hrs when half a litre of lager costs just 50 santims [LVL0.50]. The regular price was only 80 santims [LVL0.80] which still seemed cheap when compared to most other bars in Riga's Old Town where prices were double that or more. Finally, I’d like to complement the hotel on its customer service. The girls on reception were friendly and helpful and, when my flight home was cancelled due to the snow, as a goodwill gesture they knocked 25% off the room rate for the extra night.

Hanza hotel is a great value for the money. It has clean and tiny rooms. The area is really quiet, so your rest is guaranteed.
You have to walk 5 blocks to the old town, which is not that bad. try to walk along big avenues because you dont see anybody on the street at 3 am.
The staff is friendly and the breakfast is just decent.
Overall, good value for the money and the location is not bad.
I would come back there.
