Hanza Hotel

I have stayed at the Hanza in Riga on two occasions with my girlfriend. The hotel is in a great location for the city centre which is only a few minutes walk away. Public transport links are good and the railway station is about 5 minutes walk. The hotel is very well presented, as are the staff who are all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are well decorated and the fixtures and fittings are all of a high standard. The rooms and the hotel in general are very clean. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, and breakfast was served in the downstairs bar/diner area. It was very nice, very good food and plenty of it. I will certainly stay at the Hanza on my next visit to Riga. All in all a very good hotel, in a great location for the city centre and old town.

Our standard room was super clean but not much more to it than that; very basic with desk, chair, TWIN beds (despite having booked as double) and bathroom. The breakfast room is far too small for the number of rooms in the hotel and is therefore always crowded.

Room Tip: Our standard room was facing the courtyard and had absolutely no view.

Don`t you never staying at Hanza Hotel! Hotel maid had complained that our room smelled of tobacco, and we would have smoked also in the hallway. In addition we are accused of partying into the early hours. None of us even smoke!!!! In the evenings we had dinners in the restaurant at Old Town and then we came to the hotel to sleep. The hotel charged us a penalty payments and we haven`t had any opportunity to defend ourselves. So don`t go to this hotel, because you're going to get scammed!! In addition the hotel's restaurant is so small that there isn`t any place to sit; we had to wait standing for the release of sites. The hotel was a complete disaster!! Fortunately the holiday was otherwise a success in Riga and we didn`t give Hanza Hotel to spoil it.

Dear Markku U,

Thank you very much for staying at Hanza Hotel and for your comments on our hotel.

Actually, we have to correct some information; Hanza Hotel is 100% non-smoking hotel and in our opinion it is unacceptable to smoke in the room. You were warned not to smoke, but not charged for smoking in the room.

When our valued clients check- in, all the linnen in the rooms are fresh and cleean. Our hotel does not fine anybody without a reason, but if there are burned holes in the bedcover, we do ask to cover the cost of a new bedcover.

We highly recommend all our clients to explore beautiful Riga during the day and also the nightlife in the Old Town. But if we receive complaints from other clients about very loud neighbours who do not allow to have a proper rest to others, we do ask to respect it and not to party in the room during the night-time.

Best regards,
Aigars Gerhards
General Manager

We stayed at Hanza hotel for three nights and each night we ended up downstairs at the Hanza pub! Lovely hearty food, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere! Nice to relax after exploring all day! Not far from the old town, which is really nice!

Spent two nights here- our first night in Latvia and last night. Comfortable, secure and modern hotel located close to markets (a taste of the real Riga)and walking distance to old Riga town. Difficult to find by car so a good map is important. Parking is actually on the street outside. Seems like an unsafe place at night but well lit outside the hotel. Staff were friendly and spoke english which was really helpful. Breakfast was an extensive choice. The Hanza pub restaurant was excellent in both atmosphere and food. We preferred the double bed room we had on our last night in preference to the twin bed on our first.

Room Tip: Higher floors has views over city.

We stayed at this hotel on a stag do, so there were 12 of us. The service was great at such a reasonable price. The rooms were very clean and the showers were amazing.....the bathrooms have heated floors which blew my mind! The breakfast was great and serves from 8 - 12 at weekends which suits a hangover. It ranges from continental to include pancakes also. It combines with a bar also downstairs which was great to kick start a night out, it was reasonably priced too with a Kiss Cider costing 2 Lats. A few of the group ate there too in the evening and there were no complaints, they chose the Chicken breast and the Fish and Chips. The location isn't too bad, it was about a 5 minute walk to a cash point and 10 minutes to the Old Town, where everything is located. Taxi's are also really reasonably priced to get back from the bars too (c.5 Lats). The walk to the town is not the most scenic but you do get a feel for what the real Riga is like, it also takes in a local market. On the underpass on the way to the Town I would highly recommend a little cake shop which was a hit with the whole group.

Hi The hotel cannot be faulted nor can the staff or the breakfasts However it is just too far away too pop into a nice coffee shoppe in the Old Town. There are no nice coffee shoppes where one can sit and watch the people and see the every day life You have to at all times walk through the market place or go through the station.
Its fine but as Riga is a real city for walking its just that little bit too far out
On the upside there are some great Outlet shops around!!!

Room Tip: All rooms seem very quiet.
