This hotel is situated in a peculiar area. It is across the street from the Belarus embassy and an old, quaint, orthodox-style church. There is really nothing to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. It is relatively close to some no-go areas for tourists. Yet, if you stay on the roads that leads you on the most direct path to the downtown area, you'll be fine...even late at night. Depending on your pace, downtown is a 10-15 minute walk. There is a massive outdoor market that lies directly between old Riga (downtown) and the hotel. It's really quite a sight and fun to tour around. I bought some cherries from there for my room but because there was no refrigerator, I had to eat them fairly quickly. There is free Wi-Fi in the hotel but it went in and out of service quite regularly the first day I was there. On the second and third days the Internet worked fine so I'm not sure what to make of its dependability. I haven't researched this but I believe Riga is working on putting in hotspots all over the city because the same Internet I connected to at the hotel was the same I connected to in particular places downtown. The room itself is just fine....nothing notable but nothing worth overly complaining about. There are different sized rooms but mine was cramped with two people. There were only enough towels for one, however, my friend used a hand towel for his showering. Oddly, there were no Kleenex in the room, no iron or ironing board either. The bed was comfortable enough, I've slept on far worse. The breakfast was extensive and caters to many different tastes - included in the price of the room. Also included in the price was a message. I don't remember booking any sort of special deal that included this amenity so I was a bit surprised when they revealed this option to me. I took advantage of it and was glad I did...a wonderful, 50 minute service that was quite relaxing. The hotel advertises the use of their relaxation area for up to 14 LVL but it really is not worth it in my opinion. There is a dry sauna...not very hot, and a steam room that I couldn't figure out how to turn on. Other than those two rooms there are a couple of showers, some tea, water and a small sitting area. There are other types of body treatments and spa services available like waxing and facials. Not bad overall, just keep in mind that this hotel is not located in the downtown area.
