We stayed here for four nights during our Riga city trip. We both really liked this hotel. The room is very spacious, the bathroom was modern and also had plenty of space. The beds were good.

Location of the hotel is very nice. It's not in the middle of the city centre, so you don't have all the city centre noise. Still it's in good walking distance of the centre, central train station, central market and international bus station.

For breakfast you have plenty of choice, but quality of the food isn't very high (well, for west European standards it isn't high). That's something they could improve. Still it's a good breakfast.

Hotelbar is a nice place to drink coffee or beer, after a day of doing things in Riga. We have not had dinner in the hotel, but the food that was brought to other guests looked very good. They also showed the fifa world cup game on big screen.

Compliments to the very friendly staff for this great hotel.

Really enjoyed our stay here. We were on the 6th floor overlooking the courtyard and the room was lovely and quiet, and comfortable. Breakfast was OK, not special, but acceptable. Staff were great especially the waiting staff in the outside bar and restaurant. My only complaint would be that the blinds let too much light in- in the middle of summer with a lot of daylight hours I was waking up at 3.30!

The room was large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good and they serve very good food at restaurant outside. Receptionists were kind enough to print out the bus timetable to go to the airport, to book a taxi, to communicate well with a non-English-speaking taxi driver. The bathroom was large with a bathtub so I enjoyed a relaxing bath time too. Only problem would be its surroundings. The location itself is great as it is only 5 minutes walk to the bus stop to/from the airport and 10 minutes to the old town. But I would not walk around alone after evening.

I say this hotel is a hidden gem. Hidden, because it's located outside old town, in a historic district called Maskavas. This district used to be the russian district and later on during the war, the jewish ghetto. At first sight looks a bit scary, if you don't know the history, but it's safe and great to walk around and see the old wooden houses (protected heritage). The Latvian Academy of Science, jewish monument and Riga ghetto museum are in walking distance from the hotel.
Gem, because it's modern inside contrasting the old beautiful facade. It has spacious rooms, modern bathroom facilities, good service, great breakfast and a spa(which I didn't visit). It's in a very quiet neighborhood and has parking on the street in front of the hotel and the church.
If it wasn't for Hanza Hotel I wouldn't have visited the Maskavas district. You should look for "Maskavas district" on Wikipedia before booking the hotel.
If you like history and don't mind being outside the old city, this is the perfect hotel for you.

We were a little worried walking the ten minutes from the bus station through a bit of a run down neighbourhood. As it turned out that was our only complaint.
We had a large room on the fourth floor with quaint interior shutters looking over the square, while the bathroom has been redone and is pretty chic.
The trek to the centre takes 10 or 15 minutes past a cast of characters near the central market.
The restaurant is nice though it served up the usual breakfast suspects.
Overall, great value and a charming spot

I booked in for two nights, and left after one due to the incredibly bad smell in the room (and throughout the 6th floor). The price was OK, and breakfast serviceable - for that they get two stars instead of one.
