“Little Gem”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

I was looking for a cheap hotel to stay in Latvia and came across this little gem.

I use tripadvisor for all my hotel needs and again came across some bad reviews.

On arriving at the hotel from the airport you should pay no more than 15 euros

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room had a nice view of the church may be a bit spooky at night but was nice. The room was also a fair size too. Room 609.

The bar on the outside of the hotel is very nice and service is normally pretty quick.

The food downstairs in the bar is not the greatest but fairly cheap.

The spa in the hotel is also nice a little small but all you need. If you pay for a massage you get a hour and a half free in the spa rather than 20 euros per person. We paid for the 25 euro massage which was really nice so you kind of get the spa then for 5 euros.

It is about a 10 min walk to the old town under the railway bridge and you are there. you cant get lost with this hotel as its next to the science academy which has about 10 red lights on top of it which you can see from the old city.

The old city is fairly expensive mind a bit of a shock for me to be fair.

You can also get a taxi from the opposite side of the train station to Jumula for 40 euros its really nice and defo worth a visit, you can also get the train but it takes 1 hour 20 mins.

Would defo recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: big room was 609

The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the old town.

The room was tiny with OK size bathroom. The customer service was good. Breakfast was average. It was in the basement and it was really packed in the morning. Some people were taking their food outside to eat.

We stayed here in July and it was really hot ( no AC) so we had to leave the window open and the room was filled with inspects.... apart from that it was all good..

The Hanza hotel is somewhat out of the way, but easy to locate thanks to being right behind the big science building ("Lenin's Birthday Cake"). Everything is new and nice, if a little bit cramped. Friendly staff and thoughtful, tasteful details make this feel like a more expensive hotel than what it is.

The room is spacious enough and comes with powerful AC. The decoration is stylish and overall it feels like a US/Scandinavian downtown hotel. The bathroom is large and well equipped.

Breakfast is of rare quality. The selection is wide enough, but more importantly everything is of high wuality. Excellent coffee and porridge. The breakfast room is very comfortable, even though a little cramped. The breakfast hours of 8-12 are a nice, flexible change from the typical 7-10.

Free parking is on the street in the vicinity of the hotel and around the nice church opposite the hotel. It feels safe enough, but isn't guarded.

Old Town is within walking distance, if not right around the corner. I would definitely come here again.

Room Tip: The sixth floor corridors are a little tight/hard to maneuver with luggage.

Stayed for one night and was most impressed with the helpful staff. Central to Riga's old town too. Our room overlooked an old church and the downstairs bar was cosy and also the location for an ample buffet breakfast which was included in the cost of the room. Happy to stay here again :) and recommend to other travellers.

Great hotel with very helpful staff. Our room on the top floor was modern and spacious with a great view and comfy bed. Easy walking distance to the city centre through the main market but we'll away from any noise. Would recommend this hotel based on my experience.

Room Tip: Very cheap upgrade to get one of their best rooms on the top floor.

Have stayed here before, different impressions every time. This time the room was a big disappointment: small room towards the dirty inner yard, with neighbours having full view of your room from the outside. A small group of rooms are placed a bit aside, off the main corridor. 301-304 on my floor, probably the same series on the other floors, you should avoid these specifically when you make the booking. Feels a bit unsafe since they are separated. No safebox, no fridge. Bathroom with obvious damages caused by water leeking into the floor. Reception staff a bit uninterested. Anyone can pass through lobby in to elevators and into the corridors. The hotel is actually a good bit off the main track. This was my last stay here, for sure.

We stayed here for four nights during our Riga city trip. We both really liked this hotel. The room is very spacious, the bathroom was modern and also had plenty of space. The beds were good.

Location of the hotel is very nice. It's not in the middle of the city centre, so you don't have all the city centre noise. Still it's in good walking distance of the centre, central train station, central market and international bus station.

For breakfast you have plenty of choice, but quality of the food isn't very high (well, for west European standards it isn't high). That's something they could improve. Still it's a good breakfast.

Hotelbar is a nice place to drink coffee or beer, after a day of doing things in Riga. We have not had dinner in the hotel, but the food that was brought to other guests looked very good. They also showed the fifa world cup game on big screen.

Compliments to the very friendly staff for this great hotel.
