Well that’s what we are told is important and the Avalon has got it in spades!

Close to bus links to/from the airport ( bus no 22), the retrun journey starts right outside the hotel!

The hotel backs right onto the old town and the front over looks central market, close to train station, couldn’t be better.

The hotel itself, well, its an hotel and it does that job very very well, principally because of the attitude of the staff , first class all the way.

Whoever does the training and recruitment programme really knows their stuff ,the staff I found nothing less than top class.

The building itself, again its the atrium, almost worth the admission on its own. Rooms I found clean to a high standard with hotel services very much on the ball.

Wonderful February break in Riga , ( walking on the Baltic up at Majori was something) and the Avalon provided the best base a first or second time visitor could ask for

Well placed on the edge of the old town. A modern, stylish hotel with small but perfectly appointed rooms. Ideal for the bus stop that takes you directly to and from the airport.
We went for Valentines Day and had a fab time.

Stayed at the Avalon for 3 nights for a short break. It has a great location near the station and central market with all the 'must do's' in Riga within walking distanance. The receptionists were really helpful and went out of their way to help with travelling around Riga.

We travelled with our 2 children and were given two connecting rooms both of which were quiet, clean, spacious and well serviced.

Free dinner deal was good value, breakfast had lots of choice only downside was the scrambled eggs but no worse than any hotel's offering.

We will definetly stay here again when we return.

Modern-style hotel with everything quite average. Be aware of room choice as my regular single room didn't have any windows (just small bathroom-like windows below the ceiling), so it felt a bit like prison. Good location though.

Travelling with friends to Riga, to spend some quality time together and to rest after a very busy week, we arrived on Saturday noon at Avalon. The person at reception desk was friendly but she did not inform us of what would follow that evening. When returning from dinner around 9.30pm a big, private Christmas party was on at the open space lobby, with loud, karaoke-type music and a speaker. The party continued and continued, so around midnight we tried to call the reception to know when it would stop. Nobody picked up the phone, either because they did not hear it because of the noise or because they just ignored it. After several attempts, we managed to reach somebody, who said that the party would possibly be ending around 1am. We asked the receptionist to pass our complaints about the noise and unhappiness about not having been informed in advance to the manager.
The party continued at least till 2 am-2.30 am., after which the cleaning and the re-arrangement of furniture began. There was silence only after 3am.
In the morning, the breakfast was another big disappointment: bread was from the day before, eggs and bacon almost disgusting.
When checking out, we reiterated our unhappiness without any serious response from the hotel side.
"Avalon" does not live upon its name.

We spent a night at the Avalon hotel and liked it. From outside, the building is nothing to write home about - but it has been completely modernised inside and is quite trendy, with a great lobby area.

The rooms were clean and spacious, the bathrooms were less spacious but still modern and very clean. There was wireless internet which was great. The service was also good. We got the room + dinner meal deal, which meant that we had a dinner free, which was very welcome.

One of the positive points about this hotel is its great location just on the outskirts of the Old Town. This makes the Old Town easily accessible. However, the hotel is also a 3-minute walk from the bus station, which is great if you're going on to Tallinn, Vlinius, or another destination by bus.

Stayed for 3 nights in Dec 09. Really nice hotel and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Hotel has a good location which allows you to explore the city on foot. The old part of the town is nice and there are lots of places to eat and drink. Sampled the local Black Balsam drink but it wasn't for me. Only thing I will advise is, Ladies, beware and keep your handbag safe cause pick pockets are rife.
