What a lovely park! It is devoted to Latvian folk songs and the 25 huge sculptures are placed throughout the park grounds you walk through on the way to Turaida Castle. Many critics have written about the castle quite well. I want everyone to be aware of these dramatic stone sculptures and allow ample time for viewing and pondering.

Visited this place doing a small hike from Sigulda. Takes 1½-2 hours to get their depending how fast you are and how easy you find a track (maps not a 100% reliable though).
The Castle is a nice place to visit; in particular the view from the tower is spectacular. Also, you can have a nice walk around in the park. And see some of the other displays.

Great place for anybody. So beautiful castle and nature.
(One of the most picturesque medieval castles in Latvia, built in 1214. There has been preserved the only keep in Latvia, beautiful view opens from it.)

it is good idea to go to Sigulda - leave car there, than go by cable railway over the river, than walk about 45 minutes by foerst and enter to Turaida. Than come back to Sigulda by walk.
Castle is really in good shape (as You can see in the pictures inside - it was rebuilt and repair a little. Several interesting facts inside - for example how was heating problem solved inside a castle like this (very smart). While You buying a ticket You can enter for hole park complex - but castle is mainly part of it.

We caught the bus from Riga central station (1.50 lats, leaves hourly) to Sigulda and walked from the town to Turaida Museum reserve, which took us three hours but that included stopping at the some town sculptures, walking stick park, new and old castle of Sigulda and taking the Cable car to Krimulda, walking past the Gutman cave and then to the Turaida museum reserve.

Entry was 3.50 Lats per person and the ladies at the desk kindly pointed us in the direction of the kiosk across the road for a soviet style lunch and also provided information on how to get back to Riga on the bus. We thought we would have to return to Sigulda but there is a bus that departs from the carpark opposite the Turaida Museum enterance which goes to RIga. We were able to buy a ticket on board at 1.50 lats per person.

The Museum reserve is very interesting (3.50 lats to enter), there are around 32 points of interest/ things to see the main one being the Castle of course. There are a few steps to get into the exhibitions within the castle and it is worth going to the top of the main tour for a view over the National Park. We spent 3 hours walking around the Museum, with the Castle itself taking about an hour.
I would really recommend this as a day trip. If you want to save money and do it yourself or without car hire then it is really easy from Riga. You can get a bus to Sigulda and then even another bus directly up to the Turaida Castle, or alternatively take the 3 hr walk and explore Sigulda and Gauja NAtional Park on the way.
