Fabulous!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Jun 2019via mobile
We had a 4 day safari, timed so that we would be there for our 25th wedding anniversary.

The place is fabulous. The safari drives with our guide Joshua were amazing. The lodge is very well managed; the staff were attentive, helpful and friendly.

Perfect location, perfect experience and highly recommended.

Food is average. Lacks variety you'd expect in 5 star-rated hotel. Accommodation is average. Staff are helpful.
Some rooms are too far away for families with little kids, but no one informs you of this.
If you remove focus from the lodge and put it into safari drives, you'll be fine

Stayed at the resort for 2 nights during my trip to Kenya in June 2019, while at the Masai Mara.
The resort has an excellent location inside the Masai Mara Reserve, with a leopard habitat just a 10-minute drive from the resort. Also it's one of the few lodges in the Masai Mara to not have any barriers, wires or fences separating the resort from the wild; get lucky and you can spot ostriches or wildebeest from your room, or impalas at night.
And the reason why I did spot impalas a couple of feet away from me at 11PM in the night, is because they gave us a room which had a few small holes in the walls which allowed little insects and lizards to enter, which led us to change our rooms in the night (since housekeeping isn't available after 10PM). Since the resort is functioning since 1962 and quite expansive, problems like those are bound to happen. The water in the bathrooms isn't hot per sé but just moderately warm, and the water from the shower just dropped and wasn't running well. Wifi isn't always available - there were connectivity issues during our stay (the outer rooms are out of range) and it went out with the power, which is only until midnight.
The food at the restaurant was good and there was variety for everyone. However, they still charge you for water and won't let you bring any of your own to their tables.
However, the service throughout the lodge at any point was good, the staff were cooperative and helped us as much as they could. But the place still isn't worth what it charges you for a stay.

This is my 2nd stay. I LOVE the location. Beautiful grounds and nice staff. There is a business reason to improve the internet as many more people would be talking about the wonderful resort if we could do it while we are there and "in the moment". Food is varied and the pasta station was popular. They need a better wine selection And Tuskers Cider. The hippo bar is so fun...and we had a hippo outside our room munching all night long. The have guards to keep you safe at night from the wandering animals. The monkeys this time seem much less aggressive. Our safari was spectacular...saw the wildebeast migration. I would stay again in a heartbeat but please improve the internet!

The only hotel that is situated in the Masai Mara! That in itself is the beat experience with crocodiles and hippos and giraffes in the back fields. But all very safe! Although you need a guard to walk with you to you room at night in case the monkeys start to annoy you. But it’s all a very cool experience. Great cultural hospitality. We went all inclusive. Food could have have some more western variety. But then having more cultured food was part of the experience. The game time was amazing and we managed to see the big 5! You even land from a tiny plane carrying 12 people onto a small field in the masa Mara.
Definitely would recommend.
