“A nice hotel but not top-notch”
Reviewed 12 November 2011

We stayed at the hotel with a discount voucher, and the moment we started checking in, I could see some sort of arrogancy on the lady receptionist's face. At first she tried speaking English to us, but when she learnt that we are foreigners living in Czech republic, she demonstratively switched to Czech, even though we hardly speak the language! When we asked for a possibility to upgrade to a room with a balcony, she looked like she didnt believe we could afford that, since we came with that voucher..
The room itself was very nice, the view from the balcony was fantastic - it was marvellous to have dinner there and later on sleep with an open door in that amazing clean mountain air!!
On the negative side - there was a massage chair in the corner, all covered with a thick layer of dust and did not work. There was no toothpaste available at the reception and they could only offer us the one they had for sale, which was for children. Slippers were also not available, which was surprising for a 5 star hotel! When we asked for a map of the surroundings, the same lady at the front desk said they didnt have small ones but offered one of the larger maps. It was old and torn, but she charged 6 euros to our room for it!!! It was hard to persuade her to cancel the charge once we return the map.
Breakfast was average - not a very large selection, and they often ran out of eggs or sausages. The waiter looked a bit upset when we asked him to make two cups of latte.
Overall, even though it might be one of the best and most luxurious hotels in the town, it's far from being perfect. Staff is not so professional and service is rather cold.

Great hotel in great Czech mountain resort. Design place, with cosy atmosphere and quite good service. Breakfast nothing special but dinner in their restaurant was delicious. Very good wellness with affordable prices incl. massage.

Lovely location in the village, right by the river. Impressive building. Beautifully decorated - each room is dedicated to an actress, we had 211 'Barbra Streisand', with a bathroom fit for a star, with a cleverly designed narrow corner bath. If money's no object, they have suites as well, which must be absolutely stunning.

The buffet breakfast was good, in a beautiful restaurant, although personally, I could have done without the MTV that early in the morning. The waiters who re-set the tables after the guests wore white gloves - a really impressive touch - but all the staff were super: always on hand, but not in the way. The receptionist when we arrived was particularly worthy of a mention. I didn't get his name, but he had worked in Leeds in the UK for three years. When I apologised for my halting Czech, he said it was fine because he loves speaking English - a real star!

Špindlerův Mlýn is the main skiing resort in the Czech Republic and although we don't ski, we will definitely be going back to the Savoy Royal, so we can experience it in winter.

Location is great, at the end of quiet street in the center of town. I would rate rooms 5* and services 4*. Dinning 5*, breakfast 2*. Rooms are modern, nice, well equiped, hotel has small wellness (massages, whirpool, sauna, no space for swimming pool). Staff is nice but not so proffesional like in a real 5* hotel. Food in restaurant is great, 5 course degustation menu at 20 € you cannot miss. Prices of wine and drinks in a bar are not cheap but still acceptable. Only breakfast is poor, first - selections is very basic (like in 3* hotel), than most of time is something missing (you have sausage, eggs are missing, than cook come with eggs, sausage is missing ...). Price of standard room during the summer is more than acceptable.

Room Tip: stardard room is enough large and sufficient

We spent a weekend in this supposedly posh hotel in the summer, when the room cost barely a third of what you would have to pay in peak winter season (Spindleruv mlyn is very popular ski resort).

Upon our arrival we were upraged, at no additional cost, to suite which was extemely roomy, nicely appointed and rather generously equipped. There was even a massage chair, on of the most sophisticated I have ever seen.

Czech hotels often lack the quality you expect for a given level, but this felt like a proper five-star thing. Even more surprising was the food in hotel restaurant. While it is extremely rare to get a decent meal in this country, especially countryside, this chief knew his job and most of the menu items were good value, definitely no more expensive than you would have to pay in a sub-average shopping-mall restaurant in Prague.

Overall, very good experience. And no less than excellent by Czech standards.

The interior of the hotel is very contemporary and luxury. The rooms are superb, fantastic bed and linen. The Hotel has very luxury suits, priced more than 1,000 euro a night to standard rooms of 200 Euro a night. We stayed in a room grade one above the standard level. The bathroom was a bit small, but well equipped and too many towels and ropes to count. In total 25 rooms. The spa in the Hotel is very small, but luxury and serviced with a bar for drinks. The hotel bar is very nicely decorated, same as the restaurant. The food was very nice, but not nothing special. The service in the hotel is professional, but the staff is missing the personal touch you will get in a 5 star family run hotel is the Dolomites. I guess the manager of the hotel is not the owner. The location of the hotel is in the centre of Spindleruv mlyn. The village is very charming and beautiful. Parking in garage was 40 Euro per night, which is crazy.
