After renovation in 2004 the first and today only 4 **** hotel in Třeboň. On its side the path leads to the square by one of the main streets, which leads through two gates (Vokova), along the original city walls, the banks of the Svět pond and follows the historical road leading into the town from the South. House numbers 106 and 107 are now part of the complex Zlatá hvězda (Golden Star) hotel. Building nr 107 has a restored arcade of 5 bays and decorated groined or barrel vaultings both on the front and back wings and in the rooms along the sides. Both houses are crowned with 3 Baroque shields, in its arcade a summer terrace overlooking the square. The hotel has a unique combination of architectural styles, including Baroque interiors and Renaissance façade, this unusual mixture is directly linked to the urban history: due to numerous great fires in 1562, 1618, 1723 and 1781, which almost destroyed the entire city, so extensive reconstruction was needed. The earliest reference to house number 107 (main building Zlatá hvězda): 1687, owned by family Preittenberg, from 1724 urban property. 1781, After serious fire and renovation, the building reopened as a pub with the right to brew its own beer (it was then that the House was given its current name), 1796 private owners. 2nd Half 20th century owned again by the Government, 1980-1989 thorough renovation and opening hotel, 1997 owner company Adria-Neptun Ltd.

We stayed at this hotel at the start of a cycling tour (with Bents Tours). The first thing that we noticed was the large number of cyclists in the area and the second thing was the hotel's lack of secure storage for your bike - an important point if you intend touring with your own bike! (we were so glad that we were using hired bikes!)

Anyway, the room was clean, comfortable and had all of the usual frills such as TV and minibar; the ensuite was also clean with nice towels and toiletries.

The breakfast was of typical Continental-style, with a selection of breads, cheeses and meats AND....... this was one of the few hotels that we stayed at that served proper coffee and not the instant rubbish!

The main thing that let the place down really was that our room had no air-con and, as we were visiting in August, the only way of lowering the night-time temperature was to open the window... which allowed all sorts of mosquitos in to feast on us during our sleep!

The hotel doesn't allow smoking in the rooms (good!), but they do have dedicated smoker's chairs and sand-pits (for extinguishing cigarettes) in the corridors which we found a bit noxious first thing in the morning.

I spent 3 days at the hotel with my wife and baby.

The hotel looks nice, but there is quite a lot of things you would expect from 4 star hotel and you do not get it.

What you should count on:
- there are on 7 parking lots next to the hotel. If it is full, you have to park on a town parkplace far away
- Roms are missing A/C, so get ready for sweat bath during hot summer days
- Location in the centre is nice, but due to leaking windows the room is pretty noisy even at night
- Our room was quite dark
- Our room had view to a narrow busy street. We saw wall of some big building.
- Breakfast is basic and poor. Selection is limited to the cheapest goods. Also it is served in the way, that you take your tray and walk in a narrow lane taking what you want. My own hotel rating, that I call "Bacon index" achieved 0%, because of missing bacon

The hotel is not bad, but I cannot recommend it for the given price. It seems to me, that they tried to build 4 star hotel, but they are offering only 3 star services

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on highest floor

We stayed in the hotel for two nights as part of a touring cycling holiday. We found this to be a classic slightly old-fashioned but really solid and quality hotel. We had an internal (not street-facing) room and found that very quiet so that we slept very well indeed. The room was large and the bathroom obviously quite new, both were kept very clean. The breakfast was not the most exciting meal in the world but again was perfectly good and was served in a large airy room which was kept very clean and tidy by the lady supervising breakfast. We didn't eat in the hotel other than breakfast but did have a drink on the teraace under the arches in front of the hotel, which was very reasonably priced and provided a chance to watch the activities in this beautiful old town

There's a lot to like about this hotel. The rooms and baths were large, clean and well furnished and the breakfast is typical of most of the hotels we stayed in while visiting Czech. Bed was firm and comfortable. Covers too heavy for summer. Unfortunately it was unusually warm during our visit to Trebon. Our first room faced west, and was very hot from the afternoon sun. We asked for a fan which was delivered very swiftly. During the night it remained uncomfortable. Hotel was able to give us a different room on the second night, with windows on two sides, so ventilation/temperature was much better. However, the room faced the street which was noisy. A night bicycle tour came through about midnight and it seemed as if there was a dozen people right in the room. In the early morning, delivery trucks rumble through the cobblestone streets. If the weather had been different (cooler with the windows closed), we would have been very comfortable and happy in this hotel. The massage in the spa was very relaxing and reasonably priced. No complaints about breakfast which was satisfying buffet of meats, cheeses, yogurt, juice, pastries and breads, etc. Overall very good.
