From the moment we arrived at Herdade da Corte, a serene happiness came over me and I left all my worries back in London.
After a surprisingly twisty turny road we arrived at what felt like a secret hideaway up in the hills in this pretty part of Portugal.
The location is great, the pool is beautiful and was glistening in the 6pm (still scorching) sun.
The room was like a little country bedroom, Portuguese style, nicely done, not luxury but thats not what I was looking for or had paid for, it was just perfect.
Later we had the opportunity to meet one of the owners, the friendly,Adriana, who made us feel like we were so welcome in her amazing home.
There is the main building, which has the restaurant and a great chilling are with sofas etc overlooking a wonderful vista and then in the separate building (just next to it) are the rooms.
I think there was another building down the hill, that also had rooms but we didn't have a chance to check that out.
There was only one other couple when we arrived, people going to the same wedding we were going to, which was great.
Gradually, more arrived but even with the 5 or so rooms filled, it felt utterly peaceful and of of there are enough sun loungers to go round! One of my bugbears..
Breakfast is fine, one morning we had boiled eggs and the others there were freshly made scrambled eggs, toast, juice, coffee, cereals to help yourself too.
They have the most gorgeous dog, the biggest great Dane I've ever seen, called Bond, such a friendly giant!
Don't be put off if you don't like dogs though, he is kept well away from the guests, we only discovered him when we were asking some details on a map, which of course Adriana helped us with.
Honestly, its a great spot with 3 different beaches in the area and the lovely old town of Tavira too, which is charming, with a few tavernas etc and lovely for an evening stroll.
Also try Mesa Do Cume, a wonderful restaurant, probably half an hour drive in the hills on the other side of Tavira, it has breath-taking views all the way up and the food is stunning but be careful in the dark!
All in all, I cannot wait to stay at Herdade da Corte again, its bliss.
Thank you to Adriana and her husband for making our stay so enjoyable!
