This place was just what we needed. Quiet, secluded, very peaceful, welcoming and beautiful. We had a lovely break from hectic travel and noisy places. The hosts were terrific. Everything was provided and any request taken care of. The pool was great ! Highly recommend.

A great way and place to end our trip to the Algarve at Herdade da Corte just outside of Tariva. Tavira is a lovely, quaint town with excellent restaurant choices and beaches. The hotel is located about 10km outside of town, but I found that to be a plus. It felt secluded and one had a feeling of escaping from the daily grind there. The pool was warm and refreshing! The orange and lemon trees growing onsite make the surrounding landscape even more charming. They also make for excellent fresh squeezed Orange Juice at breakfast as well as for Citron Pressé on a warm afternoon sitting by the pool. We are looking forward to our next stay, which will hopefully be soon.

Room Tip: There are two buildings. The more remote building is about a 10min walk from the main area (where p...

We wanted to spend our honeymoon somewhere secluded and beautiful and we were not disappointed in our choice. Herdade is tucked away in the hills but Tavira and it's beaches are within short driving distance. The restaurant in the main house is really good, we had some great paella there. Our room was away from the main house, up the hill which we quite liked as we wanted the privacy. Our hosts were lovely and catered to our every need. Adrianna was happy to give us directions to less touristy beaches and recommended some good restaurants. The local waterfall is also definitely worth a visit.

We holiday in the Iberian peninsula twice a year for a month each time, staying in approximately 30 hotels. I only put pen to paper for the ones that I find disappointing.

When we arrived at this establishment at 1pm the two staff had great difficulty booking us in. I also asked for a sandwich from the menu. The two middle aged ladies were not communicative and made it clear that they didn't understand me. They then continued with their own meal preparations.

We sat at the pool relaxing until 3pm. During that time we could here the two women having a blazing row, then some time later very loud laughter. They sat in the reception in rather a relaxed manner, feet outstretched without a care in the world.Although I had pointed at the item on the menu, easily understood, they couldn't or wouldn't facilitate a sandwich.

On hearing the sound of a car they both picked up laundry items and started to look busy.

The owner had returned and after ten minutes I asked him if we could have a sandwich (10euro by the way). He was extremely rude, using a raised voice, to a guest (!!!!) and asked me why I was asking him at such a time in the afternoon for a sandwich. He had no english but I understood his spanish. Why have a hosteria in the middle of no particular place if you don't provide service?

An hour his wife arrived explaining immediately that he had family problems. I explained that we had asked the maids for a sandwich - she replied that that was impossible!!! Listen I said could we have one now. The whole explanation from her was convoluted in the Argentine way, that it took 40 minutes to tell us nothing helpful apart from I had made a mistake. Now the maids were speaking some english .... eureka!

I asked about internet access as there were two signals from the house. I explained the open access one was v weak. Her reply "why are you working on holiday?". The access was so poor I had to sit in the dark around the back wall next to the dog pound to get a weak signal that dropped every minute.. Internet access should not be advertised if it barely exists.

Rather than acknowledge a problem with the rudeness of the staff she went on to pressure us into taking a meal that night. The atmosphere for us was ruined, but would she take no for a answer?

It's sad to have family problems but also sad to involve guests, and a faux pas to pressure guests, after abusing them, to eat with you in an empty soulless restaurant.

If these people wish to be in business then the customers will respond to charm not aggression. If they wish to be in the middle of nowhere to keep there property purchase costs down, then the should provide some basic food at lunchtime. If they wish to excel at customer service then they should not allow their staff do as they wish in absentia. If they have a husband with an attitudal problem then he should be hidden away. If they make mistakes then they should apologise.

On checkout I found that uniquely they had taken cash in advance of our arrival. We will be back for a month in May and there are plenty of other places to stay,

We stayed at Herdade October 19 through 22nd, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the main building in Room 2. The room is fairly plain, but spacious, comfortable, and clean. There is a common "living room" for guest to relax in and enjoy the fully stocked honour bar. Breakfast was more than adequate, and the fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious. We had dinner at their restaurant every night, as we found it a bit too far to head into town. The steaks were indeed the "best in town". We also ordered 2 meals in advance to make sure we could have more of a variety. The wines selection was good, especially considering it is a small place. The prices were reasonable. Our hostess Adrianna was very happy to suggest day time outings, and her English is excellent. The pool is lovely. It was cool due to the time of year, but one of us did brave it. Earlier in the year, I'm sure it was perfect.
A couple of negatives - wifi was only available in the bar area, and it is out of the way if you are looking for any kind of night life. You definitely need to follow their instructions very carefully to find the place.

Room Tip: We had rooms 1 and 2 in the main building. Both were very good.

A wonderful location off the beaten track while still being 10 minutes from Tavira and 15 minutes from beautiful beaches.
Peace and quiet in the hills with a lovely swimming pool and hosts who go out of their way to help you.
The excellent restaurant means that you don't need to go into town and a nice meal on the terrace is a wonderful way of relaxing and enjoying yourself.
In addition it's excellent value for money. An address to remember.

Food was not good. We ate there the six nights we were staying at the hotel which was a shame really, it was too far to drive at night down to Tavira so we were stuck with a rather rustic barren area with poor seating and inattentive, slow service. "The best steak in the world" was anything but, Jorge's secret recipe is one he would never need to share...

Breakfast was ok, freshly squeezed orange juice being the highlight. There were ants running about the food tables on two mornings and although Adrianne and Jorge did act very quickly to get rid of them, it didn't inspire confidence.

We stayed in one of the suites up the hill and that was a big mistake. It was very quiet but felt remote and unwelcoming, the room was dark and basic, although the bathroom and shower were first class..

The swimming pool was amazing - that was the best thing about the place, very clean and usually empty, a very peaceful setting with views over the country side..

OH liked it more than I did, he quite liked the rustic rural feel of it all, but I prefer fresh decor, good food and a touch of luxury.

All in all, it was an experiment if you like, trying somewhere like that, but not one I'd repeat.
