This is a large hotel with 268 rooms. Our room was comfortable and clean with a good shower in the bathroom. It overlooked a fuel station, a car park and a flyover and was on the shaded side of the hotel. As this was February and we were on a walking holiday this didn't bother us as it was quiet at night.
The reception area was large with plenty of seating and free wi-fi, if you wanted wi-fi in your room, you had to pay extra. You also pay extra for a lock and key to fit the safe in the room.

The pool area looked very good and the pool appeared very clean and inviting, but as I said, it was February so the water was very cold. Plenty of sun beds. There is a small circular heated indoor pool.

The bar area was large with plenty of seats, the downside is the amount of large TV screens most of which showed sports. There area also 2 pool tables.

The dining area is also large but this is the part which has caused me to mark the hotel down. Breakfast is the best time to eat there. Fresh fried eggs, if you can find a member of staff to serve them. A toaster which requires the bread to go through 8 times if you want it a decent colour! plenty of cereal and fruit, some of it tinned, yoghurt. Despite the fact that this area of Portugal has many orange groves, the breakfast juices were not fresh. Scrambled eggs, baked beans, bacon and sausage available in the buffet area.

The evening meals were poor, no other word for it. If we hadn't been on a group holiday we would have eaten elsewhere. Vegetables had all the goodness cooked out of them. No real vegetarian choice. Meat was overcooked and grisly, fish undercooked. A complete disaster.

Wine was very good value. Staff worked hard and were very helpful (apart from breakfast)

If they just put more effort into the food this hotel would be a delight to stay in.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the left hand side if you want sun on your balcony, rooms overlooking the swimming po...

This hotel is liberally decorated with prints of post impressionist artists, my bedroom had large prints of pictures by Raoul Dufy and Paul Klee. It is a spacious and comfortable building and all the staff are really friendly and helpful, however the buffet meals are rather monotonous and I would only book breakfast if I visited again. The salt pans behind the hotel are a good place for a bit of bird watching with a variety of gulls and waders including avocets.

Just got back after 5 nights at the Vila Gale Tavira on a Golf Break. The hotel was ideal for our stay with very clean rooms, plenty of hot water and a good breakfast. Its location in town is ideal with all the local amenities within a short walk. The bedrooms are comfortable but maybe could do with a little brightening up but I would have no hesitation in going back again. The staff were helpful and overall the Vila Gale Tavira was an ideal base for our golf break. Diolch yn fawr unwaith eto.

Good hotel, very clean and well located near the centre of the town. Rooms over the atrium reception can be noisy (unless you plan to be the last ones to bed). We asked to move and this was accommodated without any fuss. Only ate in the restaurant once, fairly typical buffet but there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Good location for a number of golf courses, but you would need a car or transfers arranged to get to them. Would use it again for a similar holiday. Large bar with Sky Sports etc.

More than most! In the winter you need to be overlooking the pool on the inside of the hotel but on the side nearest the river. That will give you sun all day which is vital in the winter. Avoid rooms facing outside of the hotel unless you like looking at roads and petrol stations. I reviewed this hotel 2 years ago. It is showing it's age now - some of the floor tiles are starting to rock. The new mattresses are very hard. Obviously it's location and it's 3 story height are it's strengths but it's principal weakness and it's a very big one (apart from having to put the password in for the wi fi, already mentioned by many) is the paper thin walls. You can hear everything...and I mean everything. I had to move;it was like someone snoring and talking in their sleep in the next bed! Staff are good. Breakfast ok.
Spa was very good for a massage - gym was very basic and poorly equipped to be honest.

Room Tip: see above...get on the inside wing on the wing which overlooks the petrol station nearest the river.

Had a marvellous two weeks in this hotel. Our beds in our sunny room were very comfortable and the food delicious. The staff were helpful and friendly. It was good location for walking and bird watching, also for exploring the historic town.

Room Tip: Loved our sunny room overlooking the salt pans. All the staff were incredibly kind and our lunch and...

This is an excellent hotel. The staff are very helpful and the range, quality of the buffet restaurant is excellent. The town is very small but interesting. Do visit the town's museum. The only criticism is the quality of the packed lunches. The sandwiches really need to be improved.
