Hotel staff = All very friendly.

Rooms = Good size with great air conditioning which was very welcome when it was 38 degrees outside.
Fridge was very handy, in cupboard under tv. We used it all the time for drinks and fruit.
Safe in room does indeed have a hole, you rent the lock from reception which i do not agree with.
The shower does splash onto floor but you just need to put the floor mat down.
The balcony is a wonderful feature.

Restaurant = Breakfast was perfectly adequate. However, i didnt understand why the pancakes were cold. I think it might just be how they do it.
We were not all inclusive, however, we decided to eat two evening meals in the hotel. We found both of these nights to be in top three of our meals.

Pool = Outside pool was very chilly but that was VERY welcome in the heat.
Not enough sun loungers though and people were getting a little tense bout them.
Indoor pool was nice and quiet as children not allowed in.

We had a full body massage which was absolutely incredible. She made us completely relaxed.

The downside was the fact that some days the housekeepers didnt get to the room until 5pm which was annoying if we wanted an afternoon nap.

Room Tip: Ask for a room furthest away from lifts and on top floor. We also found it better having our balcony...

Our trip to Tavira came at the end of a two-week top-to-bottom trek around Portugal. We felt a trip to the Algarve would cap our Portugal trip with some R&R time by the pool and a relaxing vacation town. We chose Vila Gale Tavira based on reviews.

The hotel does well for what it aims to do well: Cater to the mass-tourism class of travelers who want beach, pool, sun, and relaxation. This is not us, so we knew what we were getting ourselves into when we booked here.

We found the pool area to be comfortable and well-laid out. The lobby of the hotel is massive and can be a tad imposing.

Our room was clean and functional. But the beds are hard and not particularly comfortable to sleep in.

Breakfast was good, with a wide selection of items -- hot and cold -- to suit any requirements
Wifi is not free in the bedroom and is an extra charge. For a large hotel in this price class, we feel the hotel should change this policy.

There was a safe in the room that couldn't be locked. It appears the lock had been drilled through. We're not clear on whether there are working safes in other rooms.

There is no fridge in the room. The lack of a fridge in rooms at Vila Gale Tavira was a surprise, given the high volume of families with young children staying at the hotel

We stayed in the same room (1037) as SmithS&B (the previous reviewer).

We can confirm that we used a bottle of water and left the other two, so certainly preceded them. We didn't find the room excessively noisy, but very occasionally heard young children and furniture moved. We also found the shower tended to wet the floor. The room was a decent size and well lit, though looking just a little bit 'tired' in places.

We found the reception staff helpful and generally pleasant throughout, even if not 100% "customer focused".

Our air con. failed late one evening and although we did not bother to report it as faulty, a mechanic appeared the following evening having already fixed the fault, wanting to test it out.
Remarkable service.

We only eat breakfasts and found them OK, once we found out what worked for us, but certainly not a highlight of our holiday! (Perhaps we were spoiled on last year's holiday.)

The hotel is very well located for access to the delightful Tavira Town, with its many excellent and very reasonable eating establishments, and also very close for the (cheap and regular) ferry to the island beach. (Ignore any timetable, in summer they just seem to run continuously.)

The hotel bar area we found to be quiet, despite there being entertainment each night; probably the result of the attraction of Tavira on the doorstep.

We did not have regular access to a holiday rep. so found having an independent rep. who popped in to reception each day selling boat tours, kayays, bicycle hire etc. very useful.

We found out on the last full day that there is a courtesy bus from and to the "other" local Viia Gale hotel, which we needed to use to hire bikes.

WIFI in the room is 5 Euros per day, but is free in the public areas. This free WIFI was very useful to us due to changing family circumstances whilst we were away.

We had no complaints whilst there, and most people would be reasonably happy, with one exception:

There are 6 double fire doors in the restaurant and 4-1/2 WERE PERMANENTLY LOCKED.

This is an extremely dangerous practice and I clearly noted this on the questionnaire we filled in. To exit during a fire would require everyone to pass the kitchen, the most likely source of a fire.

I agree with the previous reviewer,
"there is a lot, lot more the management and all the staff should and can do and this could be a really good little hotel."

The hotel is well presented and the grounds are very well maintained.

The daily charge for the small room safe was a bit steep.

Overall I would recommend this hotel, particularly families.

Very central hotel in Tavira, walking distance from city center and all the restaurants in town, except for "Vela 2" restaurant.
Beach only reachable by boat (line boat) or by car.
In July there was a very quiet ambiance, very relaxing.
Friendly staff.
A little too expensive for what you get.
Anyway, it's a nice hotel and a secure buy.

We booked a last minute, 5 night break at the Vila Gale Tavira in August. We arrived just before midday and we were told to come back around 2:30pm as the room wasn't ready! They reluctantly took our cases after I had to actually ask if they would!!
When we finally got checked in after a nice stroll around Tavira, our room, 1037, was on the bottom floor. The rooms are okay and comfortable, decent choice of TV channels and a fridge which had two bottles of still water and an empty sparkling one!they were duly removed and replaced by our own choices of beverages!
The bathrooms are okay, but beware of the showers! There is a glass shower screen, no curtain and that's it, but when you get out of the shower, as my wife found out, water gets all over the floor and she slipped, luckily avoiding a serious injury! The hotel was fully booked and we couldn't get a room change, which we found strange as we heard no one next door or above until the last two nights! The rooms are poorly soundproofed, as the conversations of our family of foreign neighbours could be heard clearly for the last two nights and the constant furniture arranging of the people above!
*NOTE TO FURNITURE ARRANGING PEOPLE* When on holiday, leave the furniture where it is!!!
The pool area is nice, but it gets crazy busy and there's no real chance of relaxing unless you take your headphones and listen to your favourite holiday tunes!
Going back to our room, it was next to an exit door to a corridor which was used as a sprint track by kids, using the doors as brakes, right up to after midnight, who obviously didn't read the 'ssh' signs!
We ate breakfast in the hotel, buffet style, and the food on offer was actually really good! Yes, that is a plus point for us!
Only a handful of the hotel staff were really pleasant, but there is a lot, lot more the management and all the staff should and can do and this could be a really good little hotel.

Room Tip: Get a top floor room! Beware of showers leaking water onto the floor.

Spent a week here with the gf and really were pleasantly surprised.

Generally I have found Portuguese and Spanish '4 Star' hotels barely the equivalent of an Irish 3 Star, but this place was definitely up there.

The outside is very impressive, immaculately cut lawns and hedges etc. On entering it is huge with plenty of wide open spaces, very Moorish in style. Plenty of air conditioning which was a major plus.

Reception was the only major downer. Very poor at the best of times, long queues, with no system in place, staff were quite unhelpful and often rude with just a basic lack of people skills to be honest. Although the lad on night time reception was the exception, very friendly.

The rooms were great. Large very comfortable beds, decent bathrooms, and very nice balconies. TV had over 70 channels, about 30+ were English speaking which was handy for downtime. Great air con. They charge for the safe though, about €20 for the week. Quite unreasonable. Also wifi was charged for in room.

The pool area was nice. Very clean. Probably 70% Portuguese people which we liked. They could do with a few more sun beds as well.

Breakfast was very good. It's certainly not amazing but the selection of food is impressive. Everything from fry ups to fruits, ham cheese, breads etc. Breakfast staff were very nice.

Location is perfect, right next to the beach ferry and about a five minute stroll into the town centre.

Overall I would definitely recommend this place. Worked out quite cheap for what we got, and the best plus being the beds actually being really comfy!!!

I was at this resort hotel for 7 nights in August. After i had some small "issues" I went to reception and was immediately introduced to the hotel General Manager (Elia) to address my issues. She was completely understanding and professional saying if one siongle guest was in anyway unhappy then so was she.

She immediately resolved any issues i had making my stay a truely relaxing lovely stay!

I would recommend this hotel to anyone from any country.
