“Welcoming and comfortable”
Reviewed 24 May 2012

We had a great stay at the Tavira Inn, in May. Since we were visiting before the tourist season, the Inn didn't seem to be fully up and running - there is a bar, but it wasn't open, for example. The owner met us at the train station and drove us to the hotel - he also gave us a ride back. He was welcoming and friendly, and even gave us a little driving tour of Tavira, so we would know our way around. His restaurant recommendations were also spot on - we had superb meals for very little money while visiting Tavira.
The location is just outside of the center - you can easily walk to the center in 5 minutes. The Inn has a small salt-water pool, comfortable rooms with free wifi. No breakfast, but there are several cafes close by. Our room had a cute little balcony with a table and chairs - I think most of the rooms have balconies.
Overall, the Tavira Inn is a great value for the price, and the owner, who speaks excellent English - makes you feel immediately at home. The only minuses - and these are very minor in the grand scheme of things - were: the pillows on the bed were not all that great (small and insubstantial - perhaps they just weren't to my taste), and the shower. It proved impossible to use the shower without getting a substantial amount of water on the floor. This was more a problem because I felt bad about flooding the nice bathroom - it didn't inconvenience us in any real way.

Just came back from a fantastic holiday. I stayed for 2,5 weeks at Tavira inn. It's a bit long for the town, but the surroundings (cycling), people and the beach made it pass so fast. The public transport is also close by so no problems to take trips from Tavira. I loved the guesthouse and its design. The welcome was very warm. Only complain is the weather.

I spent three days in Tavira ,It was my first solo trip and I was looking for a quiet place to relax.
I couldn't choose a better place to stay.

The hotel is well located, approximately 3 minutes walking distance from the bus station and 5 minutes to the center of Tavira. When you arrive you are welcomed by Sebastiao, a real character, who manages the hotel in a very friendly and helpful way, able to advise on local restaurants and places to visit.

My room was clean and spacious, en-suite, with fridge and towel warmer. The free wireless internet access is a nice extra. The room was really fresh, ideal for summer but after a few days of rain (if you are like me, always feeling cold) you will need a jacket to stay for long periods inside the room and maybe and extra blanket at night.

I normally have problems to sleep, but the bed had a good mattress and I heard no train in the night, I managed to sleep well.

There is no breakfast, but also not a problem, it allows you to sleep without having to wake up at certain time for breakfast and there are plenty of bars and restaurants around, giving you the possibility to mix with the locals.

The see water pool provides a place to relax with a beautifully landscaped backyard and a terrace, unfortunately the weather wasn't good enough for a swim but I enjoyed it reading my book.

The bar is unique, with a piano, Sebastiao own paintings and different objects from the traditional Portuguese houses. The atmosphere is welcoming and gives you the possibility to meet the other guests and share your day experiences.

I had a wonderful weekend, I enjoyed beautiful beaches, excellent food and walks around the village. Thanks to Sebastiao and the other guests I felt like home.

We stayed 9 nights in this nice place. Clean, comfortable beds and a very pleasant owner.
Tavira is a charming and authentic village with plenty of restaurants and cafes with terraces. We have been birdwatching every day and from the Inn we could cover a wide range of good spots, including a trip to Alentejo. The rooms have a fridge so we enjoyed our own private breakfast on the balcony in the sun every morning (pack a little water boiler and mugs - we didn't). A big supermarket is 15 minutes' walk, at the other side of the centre. Bus station at a few hundred metres from Tavira Inn, also convenient to get back to Faro.
Sebastiao is a very good and caring host. We like this sort of place very much and Sebastiao keeps everything in perfect order, since he seems to be very well organized.

Room Tip: Morning sun front side, shaded balconies front side en shaded terrace at sea pool. One room at the b...

We really enjoyed our stay in Tavira Inn, which has a pleasant location on the river. The train is rather loud but as others have mentioned it is quite infrequent and it even became one of our jokes as we waited for it to arrive. It also isn't too early or late so it doesn't wake you up at night. Sebastiao recommended two great restaurants which were the best meals we had in the whole holiday and Tavira is a lovely town to visit. The balcony room was very nice and the decor is tasteful. The only thing we would have liked was to have access to cutlery, plates, glasses etc so that we could have made breakfasts and lunches on the balcony. There is a friendly cafe nearby who lent us their cups and spoons in the morning but it would have been nice to have been able to make sandwiches etc more easily, as there is no breakfast provided. Anyway this point aside it was a very good introduction to the Algarve and I would recommend it.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms upstairs are very nice

Somewhere a bit different from the standard hotel, with real character.Sebastiao welcomes you warmly and is justifiably proud of his intimate small hotel. The room was spacious , very clean. and with great decor. The pool was a refreshing bonus which we both enjoyed.Location is good, just a short stroll to restaurants etc.Sebastiao is really helpful and a great source of local knowledge.Overall, excellent!!

Tavira Inn is a wonderful place to stay if you want to be very close (a few minutes' walk) to the centre of a beautiful historical small town ( with sandy swimming beaches not too far away) - and yet to feel away from it all. The peace and quiet of Tavira Inn's ambiance is extremely relaxing, and best of all the pool is a terrific extra amenity. Host Sebastiao is very welcoming. All in all a great place for a holiday.
