When i went through it early in the morning it seemed a lovely pleasant place to spend the day (if you want to wear clothes) but when i came back through later in the day it was absolutely heaving with people and families and kids running around everywhere. That's my idea of hideous but if that's what you're looking for then I guess this is actually a nice place. PS It does not take 45 to walk from Pedras Del Rei to the beach, more like 20 and it's a lovely walk where you will see lots of different types of plants and birds.

The beach is good, but to get there you have to take the train, which is a little bit expensive. Otherwise, you can walk to the beach, but prepare yourself to walk around 45 minutes just to get there. Then, when you are tired from an entire day at the beach you have to walk again 45 minutes to get back. If you are a sports person, this beach can provide your daily training and a good beach!

We had a great day here. Yes there were loads of people but the beach is so vast you still have loads of room. Part of the fun is getting there across a little pontoon bridge and the option of the beach train. Otherwise it's a 10 to 15 min walk. Great little collection of eateries and beach shops. Not tacky in any way. Sun beds available for around 12 euros for 2. If you walk to the left you can walk for 40 mins with the sea lapping at your feet to reach the next beach facility at "estreita" Refresh yourself before the journey back. Like the beach, you'll love it here.

We decided to walk down rather than take the train at €1 each. Took 10mins and was rather pleasant.
The beach is very nice, but the water starts off a little weedy but that soon disappears. They still have to brolly / no brolly rule but this seems to work pretty well.
The beach bars are very typical serving the same food but slightly more expensive, as you are a captive audience! Food was nothing special and they did seem to add cost to anything possible; butter to toast or bread added 70 cents!
Overall nothing special but without dragging all your food and drink to the beach, a forced option.

It's a bit further away from Tavira, but if you like quiter beaches, it's definitely nicer than the one on the Eastern end (named Ilha de Tavira, like the whole island). The organized beach (with food junks, beds & umbrellas) is smaller, no loud music nor playgrounds, but you have to walk less to reach less crowded parts of the beach. The nudist portion starts around 500 meters to the right (West), a vaguely gayish part being around 500 meters farther (i.e. 1km to the right when arriving to the beach). One minus: water was full of algae when we were there, which made it mildly pleasant to swim in. (But the same was the case on Ilha Grande beach.)
