We spent our best beach day in Portugal here. You can walk on a boardwalk or take a little train out to the island. There are several restaurants, bathrooms and all in the remains of what was once a tuna fishing camp. Of special interest is the anchor “cementary” where hundreds of huge anchors are imbedded like a sculpture in the sand dunes. I highly recommend going into he restaurant that calls itself a museum to look at the photos of what used to go on here when every year it turned in to a village wiht a school and whole families moving out here for the season. The beach is perfect wiht calm water easy to swim in facilities and so much space its hard to imagine it getting crowded. The water was crystal clear. I hope I get to go back some day.

We had a small lunch on this beutiful beach. There is enough choice and this one was good. The service is correct and friendly. We had a cazpacho which was really nice and tasteful. Some prices are a bit high but that of the location I suppose

A beautiful beach with full service. There is a quite train ride just after the bridge. Fun for families. The water was a bit cold at this time of year, but who cares the sand is warm and the view is super.

easily found about 4k west of Tavira and sign posted off the N125, at weekends and peak summer parking can be a bit of an issue - drop your party and the bags at the entrance to the walkway and drive to find a spot. Follow the walkway over the tidal flow out to the island and then you have a choice- active, thats about a half mile or so walk or buy tickets for the lovely little train which shuttles back and forth, its 6 euro for two return journeys or you can just pay either way. The beach complex has really everything you need, restaurant, snack bar, bar and coffee shop plus some retail space. toilets very good and plenty of room.
To the left as you go onto the beach the area has sun beds and parasols, this area is supervised by a life guard. to the right is just miles of beautiful soft sandy beach 70 to 80 yards deep backed with low dunes. Go a mile or so you reach the naturist beach, so if you enjoy the feel of total sun this is where to let it all hang out. It's quiet and peaceful with lots of space.

Got the little train down to the beach - good fun 1.5 Euro’s each way - (Parking was 5.5 euros it is well organised) At the end of the train ride you have good selection of nice restaurants and bars as well as a few shops for beach things.
The beach is sandy and very clean we went into the lovely sea - so warm for October
You can swim out for some while before you are out of your depth (tide was in) - highly recommend !

Beautiful beach. It was October so not too many people. Nice sandy beach, no stone, clear water and good waves for body surf.

The water here is much warmer than the rest of Portugal but it is still very refreshing. Once you park you can walk 15 minutes or take the train to the beach which I believe is 3 euros (I chose to walk). Once you arrive at the beach there are restaurants and shops and you can walk for miles in either direction. If you walk west you quickly run into a nude beach but the beach is so long you have plenty of space to set up shop. You can easily Combine this with a trip to tavira.

One of our favorites beaches in Portugal. You can reach the Island (Ihla da Taveria) by "train" or by foot (1.5 kilometers). We recommend to take the small train. You can really enjoy the view with the beautiful flora. When you arrive on the island on the left side you can see the anchor cementary.
The beach is beautiful. You can go so far until there are no people anymore. It feels to be on a lonley beach.

Praia do Barril is one of the nicest beaches in Portugal. Kids will love the little train to the beach, the nice restaurants and shops nearby and the lovely Barril beach.
