“Loved it!”
Reviewed 19 September 2008

Having read other reviews on Cabanas we were somewhat nervous of what we would find, but we needn't have worried for a second, it was absolute bliss. We loved Cabanas and can't wait to go back. The hotel is a 10min walk from the village, and while there is building work around it doesn't interfere with Cabanas Park at all. The village is really lovely with plenty of bars and restaurants, but Esmeraldas really stood out for us and we would highly recommend it, you can even finish the night off in the disco next door if you wish! The hotel was spotless and all the facilities were more than adequate. However there was an invasion of the pool everyday at 5pm. All the invaders were Portugese, I don't think it was after their siesta though as a previous reviewer thought, I think it was the locals from nearby apartments after work, (we saw some of the regular visitors coming out of an apartment near the village one evening.) They would ly on the grass and watch and wait for a sign of you moving, and then swoop for your sunbed before you even moved away!

The bar staff were not that friendly and seemed to be more interested in serving people ice cream from the fridge than serving a drink. We did walk out on 2 occassions, I think a 15min wait for a drink is really too long, especially when you are the only ones in the bar! We were also overcharged when we had a snack from the bar menu and our complaint though dealt with didn't seem to go down well with staff. Despite this we would definetly go back to this hotel and this resort. It was one of the most relaxing holidays we have had in a long time.

Just back from a 10 day stay at the Cabanas Park Resort and was pleasantly surprised.

The apartment complex, is fantastic, very clean and great facilities for the price. It's nice and quiet but that's what we were expecting and the only minor complaint was the lack of kettle in the room. The bar/restaurant provided good, reasonable priced food but the service if you just wanted a drink was somewhat poor.

The resort of Cabanas was approx. 10mins walk away and although not abundant in entertainment/restaurants it was adequate enough and very relaxing.

I would recommend the resort complex to couples and families with younger kids as it really was relaxing and perfect for a nice chill-out break in the sun

We booked two weeks in Cabanas Park at the last minute (two weeks before leaving) and were really delighted with it. Perfect for a couple who want a chilled out holiday. Some families but no 'kiddies-club-mania' that most young couples want to avoid for another few years. However, there were plenty of young families and very safe kids pools etc. Apartments were clean and very nice. Air conditioning was a god-send. Pool area was gorgeous and there were always beds available. There's a free boat to the amazing beach just a five minute walk from the Cabanas Park apartments. The walk to the village/supermarket was about 10 minutes which was fine. Supermarket not the best though! No dodgy evening entertainment either which was nice. Quiet and chilled. All in all we loved the resort and would definitely recommend it. Just what the doctor ordered after a long, dreary summer in Dublin!

After checking several reviews and the hotel details, we were reasonably happy that we had chosen the right hotel for our family holiday and we certaintly weren't dissappointed! It was clean, quiet, sunny, the food was fantastic and unlike some reviews we had read, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The pool area and restaurant were the highlight of our stay, and as we were only there for a week to relax, we were happy to make the most of them. We did take the short ferry ride over the estuary to the spotless, and clean beach, where we enjoyed the day sunbathing on pure, white sands and swimming in the clearest sea we had experienced. We could even see small fish swimming from above the water. Due to pressure from our kids though, we were "forced" to endure endlessly hot, relaxing days by the pool instead. As there were no other Brits or Germans in resort, we didn't have to fight for the use of any of the complementary loungers or sun shades, and the other holiday makers were mainly Portuegese who had long hours of siesta, so we often found ourselves as the only occupants in the fantastic pool. The local village was a short walk away with amply bars, restaurants and shops, and the main town of Tavira was only a 7 euro taxi ride away. This town was a sight to behold at night, with quaint little cobbled streets, beautifully lit courtyards and a gorgeous river. We had only wished we could have spent more time here to enjoy what was on offer. It was very reasonable to eat out, with lovely fish meals and BBQs the main choice. The house wine in restaurants was about 6 to 8 euro a bottle and even cheaper in the super market at about 2 euro a bottle. We found the locals and hotel staff to be more than friendly if you made the effort and we would definiately come back again. We wish we could still be there now.

Hotel was in a lovely quiet location with fantastic facilities. Very clean and well maintained.

Great value too for a week in May. Hotel very quiet except at the weekend when it fills up with the locals from Portugal and Spain.

Bars and beaches a short walk away and very good value food and drink. Beach superb and well worth a visit during low tide.

On resort, staff were miserable, didn't make us feel welcome once. Real shame and a huge let down as it made us eat out every day.

Try Esmerelda's bar for good food and very welcoming staff.

Listen, we booked this Hotel last minute via the Easyjet website so it was all rather rushed. After reading the Easyjet review and other reviews on the Trip Advisor site we thought it was going to be a pretty safe bet - however, it was AWFUL.
Ok, maybe a bit harsh but here is the reality.......... the hotel is rated 4*, well this is absolutely not true, it is a 3* star at best. It was clean and tidy but that is as good as it gets. The staff were all quite rude, the Gym was a complete joke with NONE of the equipment in sound working order (the spa and steam room were good however), the food was blooming awful (having said that I wouldn't say Portugal as a whole is great on the old food thing really). Views were ok, although it was of marsh land and building work. With all of this in mind I would still say that the worst part of the Hotel is definately the location, it is in a DEAD resort in the middle of nowhere, you absolutely 100% have to have a car to get out and about. Oh yeah, and the beach.......well we never found one!!!!! We were so ready to come home after the third day when we decided to have a day out in Vilamoura - thank god we did - this was like a breath of fresh air. We actually left the Cabanas Park Resort four days early and paid extra to stay at the Olympus 4* hotel at Vilamoura Marina. It was the best thing we did.

Nice quiet aparthotel, £27 per night
set out on its own, beside half built apartments, the noise doesnt affect,
nice grounds, nice cold pool, very poor gym, jaccuzzi ok, steam room ok, rooms pleasant,
i had one overlooking the marsh, which could be a bit smelly, but i found it no problem and nice and peacefull
at first i found it to cut off even though i had a car, but as my 6 days went on the more i liked it,
no soundproofing in hotel which appears normal, but rooms 115,215,315 because of hotel shape have bedrooms which are not next to another room, i was in 315,
kitchenette basic, no freezer compartment in fridge
sky news, and eurosport only english t.v.
beds hard, but did get used to them
in room safe for rental,
cleaned most days,
good balcony to chill out watching the sunset,
noticed in some websites they were offering apartments including parking, but extra cost for underground parking not needed,
but in the peak times, easter then summer hols might be tight parking,
cabanas,
had sky bar, which was handy for rugby semi final
very laid back little resort,
about 8 restaurants couple of snack bars,
a paper shop, small supermarket,
enough for a week, it was quite quaint
the beach us very good , but by free boat,
as the last one is 5, in october, which was to early in my opinion,
you can go to similar beach just past tavira, which has a pontoon bridge then mini train (1 euro) or 15 minute walk, to another huge beach
so big if you wish to walk naked for a few miles no problem as most were doing this.
tavira i felt was average,
monte gordo was better just by choice of food shops etc,
but not like other busy british type resorts, albuefeira, oura etc,
also visited,
isla canella in spain and , oura, lagos, albuefeira, portimau, sagres, villamoura, vale de lobo, and a couple of others
I liked either the furthest west with the stunning cliffs and beaches or the east of faro, as it seemed more of a laid back algarve
summing up
only just a 4 star
nice place to take your kids, nice and safe,
but you need a car
you can get by without, as taxi and train are walkable
but to see places car needed
