“Good, except the sofabed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2014

The apartment was OK, the grounds are well maintained and pleasant, and the staff is helpful. The main minus point is the sofa bed, which was very uncomfortable. Having a car is recommended to enjoy the stay.

Tavira Garden is a pleasant enough complex with a mix of holiday-makers and 2nd home owners. The complex is quite large and situated just outside the delightful town of Tavira.

There are two swimming pools on site and they are good enough for most people, with sun-loungers, drinks etc readily available. Our apartment was nice enough with a large balcony and a view of the Atlantic & Tavira Island in the distance.

Our only issue was with the walk into Tavira or to any of the local supermarkets, shops, bars or restaurants. There is no pavement and you have to walk on a main road beside articulated lorries, speeding cars and trucks in order to get anywhere. We did it a couple of times and found it pretty scary, so decided to ring up for taxis for the rest of the holiday - which are fairly cheap at about 5 euros a trip. I certainly wouldn't want to do the walk with children or older people.

The complex has a nice feel and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it other than the road issue.

I'm glad that Matt H was satisfied overall with his stay in Tavira Garden.
It is true that there is no pavement/sidewalk on the main road, the hard shoulder is more than 2m/7ft wide and one is on the main road for only approx 300m to go to the supermarket. The footpath to town is directly across the main road from the entrance -- while it requires crossing the main road, there is no traffic on the footpath route. And as Matt says, taxis are readily available and cost less than €5/£4.

We have just returned from a fabulous 2 week holiday. Our apartment was booked via 'owners direct 'had 2 balconies, sunny and shady so it suited everyone. It was kitted out with everything we needed and more! The pool was a great size and I especially enjoyed my long morning swim when the kids were still asleep. Never a problem getting a sun bed except at usual busy times in the afternoon. Pool bar was great and all staff were very friendly. A big thank you to Bjorn, Michelle and all the staff. Food was delicious. Yes it was a 20 minute walk to town, but we enjoyed this as we didn't feel guilty about having an ice cream after dinner! We loved Tavira and all the beaches and will definately return.

Tavira Garden does not claim to be perfect but we do claim to be regarded as probably the best family-friendly vacation apartment complex in the Eastern Algarve. Reviews like this are a great encouragement to all of our staff.

we booked appartment 16a directly with the owner, Mr. Ted Mooney, and we had a fabolous week in Tavira! Mr. Mooney is very helpful and answered all our questions before the trip. We loved the apartment, the complex and the city. The walk to the city was for us just perfect - it allowed a little dessert every day without any guilt :-) if you are not disabled or very lazy it is a nice 15-20 minute walk and most of it in the city. Be sure to visit the little square Praca Doutor Antonio Padinha. The indian restaurant (sit in the street in the back though) is good and there is an ok sushi restaurant with all you can eat for 14 euro. Also the restaurant abstracto in the street behind next to the indian is very good. We also loved Aquasul. We have never visited the same place twice on vacation but if we ever will we would revisit Tavira Garden!

Tavira Garden is a mix of recidense and holiday apartments. The apartment was ok. The complex is very close to the road and a long walk to the city center. Its close to
a big mall and the nearest supermarket is just 2 minutes away.
Our apartment was ok and clean. We were diassapointed with the pool. When you bring kids and the lowest point is 120cm its difficult.
Ok place and good value for money but we will not return!
We love Tavira and the area and will for sure come back to the city

I'm sorry that the reviewer was not completely satisfied with Tavira Garden but I am puzzled by the reference to a problem with the pool. It's true that the two adult pools have depths of approx 120cm at the shallow end. However, there are kids pools beside each of the adult pools -- these are designed to provide a suitable environment for toddlers and small children, they begin at a fraction of the depth of the shallow end of the adult pools.

Just returned from a week in Tavira Garden booked direct with owner. Complex is not really a holiday resort per se, more a managed estate which has a mixture of permanent residents and holiday lets, which makes for a different feel (and clearly some of the apartments are empty at this time of year). We had a large apartment spread over three floors, which was spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped for self-catering, if décor starting to look a bit dated. Balcony was nice to sit out on, but a lot of the apartments seemed to overlook the access road rather than the gardens. Grounds are well-maintained and swimming pool areas clean and pleasant, although the playground is a bit run-down and not much of a diversion for a toddler. Didn't use the bar or restaurant. All the staff we came across were helpful.
Location was a mixed bag; it is on the edge of Tavira and seems a bit cut off by a busy road, which as other reviewers have noted you have to walk along it for 150m if you want to get into town. However the verges are wide and I think it is more intimidating than dangerous, having walked along it with a toddler several times. On a positive side, there is a large supermarket three minutes' walk away, with a larger shopping centre (with hypermarket) and Porta Nova train station both 10 minutes walk (or two minutes drive). Tavira centre 20 mins walk, with a lovely riverfront with water ferries to amazing beach, shops/bars/restaurants, etc., but in a traditional Portuguese town rather than over-developed tourist resort. Loved the area generally, which has amazing beaches, nature reserves, lovely little coastal villages and market towns - something for everyone. Would love to go back, but may stay somewhere else.

I guess the old saying holds true, "You can't please all of the people all of the time"! But the review, while critical, is objective. We typically manage at least four stars out of five and we try to do better.

Met by Victoria, she was lovely. Entered the apartment to find that it was massive, two large bedrooms, huge lounge\diner, large fully equipped kitchen, balcony off the lounge and master bedroom and finally a lovely solarium with tables, chairs and a gas BBQ. I truly could not believe it. We had a problem with the TV and Ted the owner came and fixed it. Then a problem occurred with the wifi and someone was there in 30 mins to put it right. Been here 2 days now and we just love Tavira Gardens with its 2 pools, fab restaurant, poolside bar and fantastic apartment. (Help i need more superlatives)

The only thing i would say is that the apartment is starting to look tired and needs some updating in terms of furniture etc. but be assured that will not spoil your enjoyment.

All along this coast are interesting sights and places. Tavira Town, Monte Gordo, Cabanas, Barril Beach to name but a few.

We love being here and have decided to come back in Jan or Feb whilst we are in Spain for 6 months.

We aim to please and it looks like we may have succeeded in this case. The review is much appreciated.
The client is right about the furniture looking a little tired. We redecorated the apartment (Tavira Garden 16A) in early May, we meant to change the furniture but we ran out of time. The furniture was fine until everything else changed but we plan to complete the transformation in September when things quieten.
