“This hotel is awesome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2010

The Hotel Staubbach is awesome! It is probably the best place to stay in Lauterbrunnen with a gorgeous location, very nice rooms and a very friendly, helpful staff. We just returned from a three-night stay there with our two children ages 4 and 6. The hotel has very nice, clean and comfortable rooms. The location is phenomenal with amazing views of the Staubbach waterfall and the valley. The staff is truly wonderful. They went out of their way to accommodate and help us when our youngest was briefly ill. In addition, the breakfast staff was very friendly and helped us plan our days with great tips and ideas of what to explore and do in the region. The breakfast was also delicious with a great selection (try the Muesli!). We have traveled many places around the world over the years and the Hotel Staubbach was one of our best experiences. You will not be disappointed!

My family of three adults spent three nights at this hotel. The hotel is in a great location. We e-mailed the hotel to check about appropriate bedding, and they gave us a discount on two rooms (ended up being the same price as staying in one room accommodating three people). One room slept one and had a sink; it was connected through a private full bath to the second large room which had a bed for two and also a sink. Both rooms had a south facing balcony (it’s a single large balcony for all the rooms on that side of the building with a short gate between the sections belonging to each room) with an incredible view of the valley and the waterfall. The breakfast was very good – hard boiled eggs, fresh breads, cheeses, meats, cereals and some fruits. The rooms were clean, and there is free Internet which is a plus. The hotel is expensive, but everything in Switzerland is expensive! It was a splurge for us, but the view was worth it. We saved money by buying food (prepared sandwiches/salads/fruit) for one meal per day from a small grocery store, the COOP, located near the train station. Another plus is that the owners leave a basic breakfast out for guests who have to depart early – instant coffee, eggs, a few pastries, and packaged bread that can be toasted. It’s sparse, but it’s better than nothing. One thing to keep in mind is that the rooms can be noisy at night - there's a cute church across from the hotel and bells seem to ring every 15 minutes; there is a break during the night but it didn't seem long enough. Also, there is a bar across the street, and cows and sheep with bells around their necks grazing very close to the hotel. You hear them all night long. It's all very quaint though. We grumbled about it lightly to each other, but weren't bothered too much.

Quaint,, beautiful location,,best elevator ever,,,free internet,,, helpful staff, great breakfast,,,,front facing rooms are a little noisy,, I stayed in three different rooms in two weeks, showed up once without a reservation, but they were very accomodating..I loved the room on the side with a front view of the valley,,, they other in the front was ok too, but the valley/falls view was great. Church bells seem to not be a factor in the cool alpine night air....next time i go to lauterbrunnen, I will definately stay there.

My granddaughter and I spent 3 nights in June at the Hotel Staubbach. The room was spotless and the staff exceptionally great. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Frank, who was on the desk most of the time, is wonderful, whistles a lot and that really raises one's spirits if the weather isn't too good, which it wasn't when we were there. He set up a good cloudy/rainy day excursion with Flying Wheels. We had a really good time on that. Miriam took us to one of the area river gorges to walk along, marveling at the racing, roaring water, then for a fruit cake which we know as a tart and coffee, then to Brienz to walk along the lake and see the woodcarving museum. Breakfast at the Hotel Staubbach is all one could want with cereals, fruit, yogurt, cheeses, meats, breads, juice, coffee and tea. I've probably forgotten something. When we arrived, there was a small bottle of champagne in the room, a gift for returning guests. During the stay I celebrated a pretty big birthday and after hiking in the meadows, my granddaughter and I opened the door to another small bottle of champagne and a personalized birthday card from the staff. What an incredibly thoughtful thing to do! But that seems to be standard operating procedure for the staff in this hotel. In addition, one cannot ignore the gorgeous views of the Lauterbrunnen valley with the waterfalls, mountains, chalets, etc. I love this hotel and this area and wish we could go there every summer! I recommend this hotel to everyone. There is a play area for kids, one can sit and just look down the valley and toward the mts., the train station is within easy walking distance. And did I mention how welcoming and helpful the staff is? Yes, of course I did. But it cannot be emphasized or repeated too much.

My family stayed at Hotel Staubbach in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland at the end of June. We had been told by the hotel staff during booking that two of the three double occupancy rooms we booked shared a bathroom. What we were not told was that the bathroom was entirely in one room. This meant that the individuals in this room endured constant interuptions from the people in the other room to use the bathroom, shower, etc. It also meant that the individuals in the adjoining room felt awkward about constantly knocking on the door that connected the rooms to use the bathroom facilities in the other bedroom. (BTW, there is not a way to lock and unlock the door between the rooms. You can either request the hotel staff to lock it permanently or keep it unlocked. The hotel itself only has one key for these doors, which they will not lend.)

The hotel is charming, clean, and the breakfast sufficient; however, a good night`s sleep may elude you. We had rooms on both sides of the hotel, and a loud bar is across the street on one side and cows with loud bells around their necks graze 24/7 on the another. The cows are charming during the day or upon first sight. Once you listen to their ringing bells throughout the night you wish they were located down the street - not in the yard next door.

All in all we found this hotel to be decent, but probably will not book again. If you can manage to book a room away from the noise with its own private bathroom you may enjoy your stay much more.

Beautiful old hotel with modern convenience including a very nice private bathroom, and free internet in the lounge. Excellent buffet breakfast during which Maria the waitress dispensed detailed advice on hiking in the area. Our room had a great view up the dramatic valley and probably most rooms had good views. Easy walk to rail & cable car stations

This is a nice family owned hotel. Rooms that face the waterfalls have incrediable views. Rooms are basic, clean, quiet. Breakfasts are very good with staff that is friendly and helpful in planning your visit. Wi-Fi is weak.
