On our trip we arrived in Akaroa at around 8 pm. Only few restaurants were open, many very expensive and some unwelcoming. So we finally chose The Little Bistro because it seemed nice. However unplanned our visit was, we were overwhelmed by the friendly French waitress, the coureous owner and the delicious meals served. Although we had a student budget we thought the dinner definitely worth the prize. Great chef and great service with a cozy atmosphere.

Fantastic food, great ambience and service. My husband got the steak which he loved. My favourite was the lemon dessert - amazing. Definitely book ahead.

We had a lovely meal and evening in this lovely little bistro. Great food, excellent service and very cosy and friendly atmosphere. We were very glad we booked because it was full of other happy patrons. We can well recommend.

First things first: the seafood chowder is amazing. It was better than the best clam chowder I remember from the US Northeast or seafood chowder from Scotland. Try it!

The risotto my girlfriend had was also outstanding. The lamb special I ordered was ok, an unusual rack of lamb with a tapenade that tasted sweet, which landed a bit odd. The big let down was the creme brulee: it wasn't set and the sugar top was too thick.

There is a great ambiance to the place, and the menu reads great. I'd have given it an excellent except for the above and some fairly inattentive service.
