We stayed in the Shepherds Hut for only two nights and wished we could have stayed for much longer. It was in an Idyllic setting with beautiful views of the rolling hills with a babbling brook just by our balcony which made it an lovely place to sit and enjoy a glass of fantastic New Zealand wine after a day's touring.

At first we weren't too sure about having a shower or bath in the 'outside' bathroom but it turned out to be great fun so completely private and being able to overlook the countryside and hear the lovely birdlife made it a unique experience. We were kept amused by the antics of the farm dogs and one in particular who was determined to show us his skills in rounding up the chickens!

We would definitely recommend.

My family (Parents, brother, husband and a one year old toddler) spent just one night here but we love the whole feel of the place. Kathrine and Hugh are wonderful hosts, really friendly and genuinely nice couple. The place is really lovely too, with little details around the house. We would have loved to stay longer and explore the place a little more but we had a flight to catch in Christchurch the next day. Would definitely be coming back here again!

My husband and I spent two nights at Coombe Farm in late October based on reviews we read online--and are glad we did. The house and grounds are more spectacular than the photos portray (I still marvel at the gardens), and Kathrine and Hugh are most gracious and generous hosts. Akaroa is a picture-perfect town fit for soaking in the scenery, but also has a number of diversions to occupy. And if you're an animal lover, there are many opportunities to get your fix--cats (Maude had kittens a night we were there), dogs, chickens, and of course, sheep. (Though if animals aren't your thing, they're easily avoided.)

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the rooms in the house and both are extraordinary.

We stayed here on the last night of our honeymoon in New Zealand. We were depressed about the thought of leaving this beautiful country, but coming here helped forget those thoughts. The farm is set in the stunning landscape of Banks Peninsula, which is worth a trip on its own to forget the destruction that occurred in Christchurch. The rooms and bathrooms are big and the beds are extremely extremely extremely comfortable. To top it all off, there is an excellent breakfast with a hearty portion of friend eggs. We could not recommend this place more...

We stayed in the small hut next to the stream. It was a perfect way to start our honeymoon NZ trip. This is a very special place - so peaceful and quiet. The hut is beautifully decorated and the outdoor bath is a really unique experience! So many nice finishing touches and the self cook BBQ breakfast is a great idea. We loved it! Thanks.

This is late review, because me and my wife had our stay at Katharine’s Coombe Farm for two days from the 16th Sep. Actually, we have been driving in a small campervan and we are quite happy that we have stayed at Coombe Farm during our trip at Akaroa which is also the last city on our road trip schedule. We love the environment of the entire place as Katharine and Hugh had taken us for a great walk around the farm on our first day of stay. Besides the clean and fresh atmosphere, we love the breakfast. My wife totally enjoyed the quiet environment. Two days was not long, but left us with great memory. Thanks for the great host from Katharine and Hugh. We wish that we will be back again with more of our friend.

We were treated like personal friends. The house has been lovingly restored and filled with wonderful memorabilia and treasured old artifacts. It's so cosy in front of the log fire which kept the whole house warm. Breakfast in the kitchen, chatting, while Kathrine cooked up a substantial feast was a delight. Arriving at this peaceful haven from the hassle of Sydney was just wonderful.
I was stunned by the depth of colour in the green hills, the flowering trees, and that view from our bedroom window. We would love to return when the weather is kinder and stay for longer next time,
