My husband and I ended our New Zealand vacation at L'abri. The house is lovely and the gardens and views are beautiful. Jane goes above and beyond to make guests feel comfortable and welcome. We will definitely go back to L'abri when we return to New Zealand.

Stayed: March 2012

My husband and I stayed in L'abri for the last night of our New Zealand trip. We were so glad that we had chosen here and it was such a perfect fullstop for our trip!
When we entered L'abri, it was really a big surprise. The photos I saw from both tripadvisor or the homepage before we went there cannot show the real beauty of this place. It was beyond my expectations!
Jane is an amazing woman, she has created and maintained such a lovely place: big garden with plenty of blossoming flowers, well-decorated lobby and room which shows elegance, great view of the harbour from the house... In the morning, Jane will prepare heartful and delicous breakfast for you which are made by organic materials and some are even produced from the garden! If you like, Jane is always willing to help you or chat with you.
We really hoped we could stay longer!

Jane is the remarkable force behind L'abri where she creates a gracious environment in the beautiful setting of Takamatua Bay on the Banks Peninsula. If you love flowers, gardens, and being surrounded by the beauty of the region then you should visit. We stayed in the cottage and Jane made sure we had everything needed to be comfortable. We hiked and explored from there and it was so nice to come back to our little cottage. Definitely will return.

Room Tip: The small cottage is good if you like privacy and cooking facility to yourself. There are no screens on the windows so bugs like to visit especially in the evening. Jane provides bug spray so it is all manageable.

We had booked for 2 nights and having read previous reviews we had high expectations of L’Abri but these were definitely exceeded. Jane has created the perfect B & B – our room was beautifully presented with fresh flowers, chocolates and homemade walnut cookies. The view of Takamatua Bay from our private deck with comfortable arm chairs was just stunning and we loved watching the hens and their chicks wandering by. We also enjoyed having the use of the comfortable, tastefully decorated lounge and kitchen. Breakfasts were wonderful with fresh eggs from the hens, homegrown fruits and homemade jams. It was only a few minutes’ easy drive into Akaroa and Jane recommended a couple of good restaurants (Vangionis and The Little Bistro) which we thoroughly enjoyed. We toured New Zealand for about 4 weeks and stayed in some fantastic places but L’Abri will always have a very special place in our hearts. If you are thinking of visiting Akaroa I can't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: We chose Harbour View Room 2 as the bathroom is larger and had a bath but otherwise Room 1 is possibly more private.

We much enjoyed an overnight B & B after walking the Banks Peninsula Track - a great place to recover with clean modern accomodation, a fine breakast and a warm welcome from Jane.
