We ducked in here for a coffee and cake and loved it so much we came back the next day for lunch. The coffee is superb and the 5 or 6 cakes, slices and tarts we tried over 2 days were all superb. Lunch was quite good, though not up to the standard of the coffee and cakes, and both days, service seemed a bit indifferent. Tables were also quite cramped with very little room inside so grab a take away coffee and a cake and then head outside to enjoy them among the stunning surrounds.

Stopped in this beautiful town during a cruise with Diamond princess " Sydney to Auckland ".
We attended this restaurant twice during our one day stop. The coffee, cakes and meals were excellent. If you are in the area, do yourself a favour and have a coffee, meal ETC.

I think the food is all right at this cafe, but to be honest, we had no chance to enjoy it as our group of 4 tried to move two tiny tables together down the back of the cafe (next to an unappealing empty ice-cream machine) and we were immediately told: ''Oh we don't move furniture here!!'' Well naturally enough we took our business elsewhere - to a place up the road that didn't mind the furniture being moved and they had brilliant customer service too!

Not as French as I hoped it would be, but still good. Their pain au chocolat (or "chocolate danish" as they called it) were yummy when fresh out of the oven, but not so good when I came in later in the day. Their real fruit frozen yogurt was delicious. It's a shame it is so squishy inside.

This is a tiny cafe on the harbour frontage at Akaroa. We were staying in an apartment above it and figured it would be good place to breakfast. It wasn't.

To begin with there are only two tables with any room and they are lined along the inside of the street front window. It is almost impossible to get into the place if these are being used. If you can't get one of these, you are confined to a cramped bar against one of the walls or there are two other small tables towards the back of the cafe which you could use if the management allowed that. We were told in no uncertain terms that we could not move those tables to try to make room for our party of 4.

The food is set out in display cases and looked perfectly nice. Much is made fresh each morning - we could smell it in preparation from our accommodation above. There is a small menu which unfortunately seemed to have little going for it. And even if it did, there is nowhere to eat it unless you are there at the crack of dawn!

On the weekend we visited, the place seemed to be trading because there were few other places open. We decided not to waste time with a crew who did not want to accommodate 4 people prepared to pay for a good breakfast and went elsewhere.

You may have a better experience but we weren't impressed.
