“A good choice”
Reviewed 5 March 2014

Good quality accommodation in a quietly-situated motel only a few minutes from restaurants, shops, etc.
Everything was satisfactory apart from a frustratingly weak and intermittent wifi signal in the room.

This accomadation is all you'll need. Clean, tidy & roomy. Close to everything in town & close to the water. Unfortunately we arrived in the rain & left in the wind but there are plenty of restaurants & cafés in the town. Be prepared to pay top dollar where ever you go. Wifi isn't free at the accom & not much is in akaora but it's a lovely town. Enjoy.

This establishment bills itself as a four star motel and lives up to that billing. Nicely located in the lovely village of Akaroa on Banks Peninsula ( a must for at least a night or so wherever you stay ), it keeps itself clean, tidy and represents reasonable value for money. The small patio overlooking a gently babbling brook is a bonus.

Unfortunately we finished our journey in Akaroa. We decided to stay our last two nights in the little Motel La Rochelle. The welcome by Jeremy was very friendly. He showed us our room in the upper floor. The room was big enough for the two of us, functional and nice furnished and with a small balcony which looked out on a stream. Finally we got the chance to observe fantails. We had our own pair of fantails right in the front of the balcony. We loved it.
Akaroa is always nice, many good restaurants and cafés and outstanding views over the Akaroa Harbour.

Dear NZ_pingi Thank you for taking the time to review our property and for your kind comments. We are pleased you enjoyed our peaceful outdoor setting and had a chance to watch the fantails. We agree Akaroa is a beautiful town and we are just so pleased to be able to share it with all the visitors we host from around the world. Thanks also for the great shot of our resident cat Honey...she too is friends with the fantails and makes many friends with our guests too :)

Lovely motel. Hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Unit was clean and spacious and had every facility you could need. A lovely private balcony overlooking the stream. On the main road but no traffic noise. Close enough to leave car and walk to shops/restaurants/attractions. Will certainly stay here again.

We tried this motel because of the good rating. Of course it is a bit pricy. We got room no 1 and the only negative points we can mention: wifi coverage for this room is bad, only in the bathroom, main door cannot be locked properly (but it cannot be opened from outside). Most of the tv programs are maladjusted.
But the overall experience was good and compared to other motels we have stayed we rate it with 4 points.

Good accommodation, clean and comfortable, friendly staff and we will stay here again next time we are visiting Akaroa. Although situated on the edge of the township, it is only a short easy walk to the center where there are numerous eateries if you do not want to self cater. A good place to stay to explore the rest of Banks Peninsular, take a trip around the harbour or just laze around and watch the world go by.

Kia ora GabrielL,
Firstly thank you for taking the time to review our property, we appreciate guest feedback and use it to improve our service. We must however take this opportunity to advise future guests that the door in Unit 1 does shut properly and the TV channels are correctly adjusted. There are seals around the door which might give an impression that it is "shut or locked" but it is and is watertight and secure. We offer our guests 5 Sky channels and 4 Freeview channels, these are highlighted in our guest compendium. We do wish you had let us know about the Wifi as we have never had an issue in Unit 1 before, having installed Wifi extenders in our upstairs units to improve coverage we will know continue to monitor the wifi access into unit 1. We are finding increasingly that there are sometimes issues with the types of devices being used. We do hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday in our beautiful country. Nga mihi kia a koe
