My husband and I recently ate at this eatery, and once again it was superb. The breads for starters were yummy and we both had the slow roasted pork belly. It was soooo good, I usually have a steak but felt like a change, and wasn't disappointed. For starters my husband shared a seafood chowder with his sister, they agreed it was to die for. We always like to eat here when we visit this lovely part of the country. And I must say, the waitress was quite open to the chowder being shared, as were the desserts, but the cheesecake was so yummy we ordered more, as one to share was just not on, we needed one each. Go there and enjoy :)

Room Tip: we didn't stay the night here, only ate there for dinner, but this is nothing against the L'...

Stayed in room 2,wonderful views over harbour.Room was good size, bed comfy if you are there in summer take a sleep mask as the large skylight lets in so much light early morning. The shower has great water pressure.Had a meal in the restaurant which was nice.Staff all very pleasant.easy off street parking.

We had 2 nights in an upstairs room with a balcony. The small kitchen is adequate if you want to do your own cooking. The restaurant/bar closes at 11pm promptly so we had no problem with noise. The view is lovely. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching tourists walk past and the boat bobbing in the water.. Very handy to shops and walks along beach and wharf. Friendly staff. Our meal in their restaurant was great. Comfortable bed, no bath but good shower. The best location. Get a room upstairs with a balcony. Room 2 is the best!

Room Tip: Book an upstairs room with a balcony facing the water. There is no fitness centre or swimming pool an...

Considering prices in this trendy area, L’Hotel Akaroa was reasonably priced and good value. The best mini apartments are 2, 3 and 4 with balconies and bay views and priced between NZ$120-140. Not luxurious but spacious, clean and comfortable with kitchenette and sitting area. Queen size comfortable bed. Effective heater and heated towel rack. The feature is the great view over the water from this second storey. The hotel underneath with bar and restaurant looks attractive and the Saturday night noise was not a problem. The hotel shuts at 11pm to allow a peaceful night. The staff were very friendly and obliging. Akaroa itself; worth visiting.

Room Tip: Rooms 2, 3 & 4; larger rooms & balconies with waterfront views.

L'hotel claims it offers luxury accomodation, but that's wishful thinking! We had fis & chips dinner in our fairly cramped room with plumbing problems (the restaurant was overbooked) and later drink cider in the downstairs tavern. Although the plates use a lot of French, no one in the staff can speak a word of the language, weird. The area is nevertheless spectacular and an artist's haven.
