We ate at L'Hotel over the Labour Day weekend. We were seated quickly but that is where the service grinded to a halt. We waited over 20 minutes to have our drinks order taken, we ordered a garlic bread as a entree and we all had mains (party of 5). The drinks arrived, then the garlic bread. We then waited and waited. Tables around us who were seated after us had been served their main, had eaten and left. No-one came near us to apologise or offer an explanation. I had to ask the waitress when our meals were coming out. My husband wanted to leave but we were assured ours was just being plated up. The waitress then proceeded to tell us that the sales docket had a time on it and we had in fact had not been waiting long at all. Funny that because being adults we all wear watches and can read the time. The food was not worth the wait. It was average. I was asked on paying the account "how was it" and I replied the service was slow. He did point out that they were very busy!!! Well 2 things - either get more staff or take away tables. Would not eat here again.

We stayed the night and had dinner. room 4 is clean, tidy and spacious. Furniture and fittings are fine although not luxurious by any means. Good oblique view over the harbour. The bar/restaurant is noisy busy and fun. On a busy Saturday night the service was a little stretched, but the food when it came was very good. Reasonable selection of wines by the glass. We enjoyed our evening and would return. They don't mention that they do not serve breakfast, but this is no problem as there were two good places within 100m or you have your kitchenette and can buy it from the nearby shop. The views are outstanding.

We ate at L'Hotel to celebrate our last few nights holidaying in New Zealand. We arrived & were seated quickly. The waitress took our order for drinks, entree & kids meals, & we asked for 5 more minutes to select our mains, which all happened without incident. The entree & kids meals arrived in reasonable time & were really nice. However, good service stopped there! We were kept waiting for our mains for over an hour, by which time the kids had finished & were well & truly over sitting. In that time, not once do the wait staff come & check on us, offer us more drinks or apologise for the wait. What made it worse was that 2 tables who were seated & ordered after us, we're both fed before us. My husband's medium-well steak was overcooked & dry. All in all, a disappointing evening to remember our holiday by!

I wasnt expecting much of a room we choose for 1 night as it was the cheapest, but on this occasion cheapest ended up being best!
Rooma a little tired, but very clean & had a great balcony.
Romm 1 has a great view over the harbour & down to the warf.
Went for dinner downstairs later that night also & food was great. Vast improvement on when we went for lunch a year ago.
Will definately be back!

Room Tip: Only 4 rooms but ask for the harbour view, not down the side street.

We stayed at L'Hotel for our last night of 11 travelling around South Island. It was a great location with views of the harbour and sun until late afternoon, the service in the restaurant was good and check-in was simple and easy.
We had bought too many bottles of wine on our tour of NZ that we needed to drink a bottle before we left the next day but the restaurant didn't offer BYO but they were great at delivering room service for us.

Very comfortable and great location for Akaroa.

We spent one night at L'Hotel on Easter Monday so it was very busy. When we registered on arrival, the 'Lassie From Lancashire' on Reception informed us that she had reserved a table in th Restaurant for us, should we need it, as she knew it may be difficult to get a meal due to it being Easter Monday night. That was so thoughtful, and it's little things like this that make all the difference. The room itself was fine, clean & well equipped with a lovely little balcony to sit and partake in a glass of wine. The location is excellent too, overlooking the bay and a couple of minutes away from the Wharf. We accepted the meal reservation in their Restaurant and it was first class. All in all we had an excellent stay and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. There is just one thing which Management may wish to take on board. The parking area at the rear of the hotel is a bit like a bomb site. Sometimes first impressions count, it didn't bother us particularly, but it may put others off, which would be a shame as it is a very good place to stay.
