“Amazing find in a little place like Akaroa.”

Meniscus Wine Lounge
Ranked #14 of 30 Restaurants in Akaroa
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$7 - US$7
Description: The wine lounge is the Tasting Lounge for the Meniscus Vineyard that overlooks the township of Akaroa. The Meniscus collection begins in 2009 with wines that reflect those of the Alsace region of France but with a distinctive Akaroan flavour due to the unique soil of the ancient crater rim and climate of the Bank's Peninsula. Riesling, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris are available. Vintages from 2009 to 2014 are available for tasting. The 2012 Bourioud Pinot is a rose' style suitable for all occasions. The Bouriaud Pinot is named after Elie Bouriaud who was one of the first French settlers who arrived in July 1840 as his father was a wine grower in Rochforte, France. The 2013 Riesling has a delightful taste and is likely to become a wine connoisseur's collector item. The vineyard is managed by Renan Cataliotti. Renan has studied in France completing his viticulture and oenologie studies in 2006 and then worked in several different vineyards in France including the Cave cooperative of Saint Christol, the Domaine Sigalou and Aumerade. On touring the world he visited New Zealand, discovered Akaroa and fell in love with not only Akaroa but also his now wife Joey whose family are long time residents of Akaroa.

“Amazing find in a little place like Akaroa.”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

Once again we're just boat people from the Sea Princess. Akaroa was a charming little town in NZ (South Island) Despite being hit by torrid weather the night before it was in pretty good shape. There were a few boats and yachts damaged and few of the businesses were closed. I found this little gem on our walk through the town. I walked in off the street and took a picture of a beautiful Salon. When we started looking for a place to eat, we were at the end of the main street and we checked the Hotel out. Like I said earlier a lot of restaurants were closed due to the bad weather. That's how we came back to the Meniscus Wine Lounge. We sat outside at the back in a beautiful setting. Ordered 2 glasses of Reisling and 2 platters made up of local produce. It was fantastic. After lunch the lady showed us the halfway house for these beautiful butterflies. She fed them and let them go. It was a real interesting lunch. Highly recomended.
