“Nice people, Needs major work”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2014

The new owners are keen to improve the standard of accommodation and certainly Room 10 needs it! It was cold, smelly, damp, full of flies and down an alleyway that smelt of wee! No doubt the windows had been left open all day to clear the smell, but when we arrived at gone 5pm it was freezing and the 1 very old heater struggled to warm it up. The half carpeted walls are weird, the bathroom shocking in how basic it is and the lack of plug sockets frustrating. $140 was far too expensive for the standard of accommodation. We travel extensively with our 2 dogs and hoped that this motel, booked 4 months ago, would be a welcome addition to our regular dog friendly places to stay. Sadly not

Room Tip: Only stay in a refurbished room

This motel is in a convenient location in the middle of Picton, an easy walk to everywhere, and we enjoyed our 2 nights here. The building is a little outdated but the owners are working hard to change that and everything (whether old or new) was in good working order. Our apartment was clean with lovely new linen, crockery & a fully equipped kitchen.

We arrived late due to a ferry breakdown and couldn't leave in the morning due to a car breakdown, in both circumstances the owners were accommodating and friendly.

The room was clean and it was very clear that effort had been made to decorate and provide a nice surrounding.

The unit was limited by its size which did leave it a little cramped but it's fair to say the most possible was made of the space available and the bathroom was very tired.

The location is excellent for the town, very much in the heart, though this can clearly result in additional noise things seemed to quieten down at a reasonable hour.

Price wise, Picton is an expensive place on balance and in comparison this was priced appropriately.

The owners of this motel really went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable and convenient. An excellent location in the busy port of Picton its the perfect place to spend the night before getting on the ferry. Likewise coming from Wellington its a great place to begin your adventure in the south island.

Booked this motel for 3 nights. although it is in a good location we were not happy with this accomodation. We had two bedroomed unit and were disapointed with this motel. Plumbing in the room was on outside of wall,(not a good look) Our rooms were not made up after 1st night and when we went to ask about this at reception we were told that we had to ask for the room to be made up if thats what we wanted. Receptionist was quite rude about it. Then said if we left any items on the bed the room would not be made up. (does this mean they dont trust their cleaning staff?) When we went to check out (8am) there was a note saying "gone for a walk, back shortly" we had to wait approx 30 mins for them to come back. Surely at this hour of the morning someone needs to be in reception. Glad we werent catching train bus or ferry and needed to be on our way. Electric jug had a strange taste when the water was boiled and none of us could drink the tea we made, although tap water did not taste the same.

Louise and I are concerned about how you have portrayed our motels. We are always open to constructive criticism but only when justified!
On arrival one of your collages came across to get a key and i was informed that the boss will be over to sought the account soon, expecting to see the boss shortly not 3 days later on the morning when checking out. We have never had any issues with anyone missing a Ferry because they haven't been able to pay. Your eftpos transaction clearly shows a process time of 07.59, so infact the office was open before 8am. As with any business, procedures are put in place so all parties involved know what to expect hence in all rooms there is a booklet supplied that details many aspects of our motel and what we provide, also in the units in clear view are door cards on room services. All guests requirements are different and a large percentage DO NOT want strangers in their rooms and why should our staff remove personal belongings off the bed to make it (Its not a matter of trust its in respect to our customers).
With our fledgling business, negative feedback can be very harmful and we apologize if you feel your stay was not up to the standard that you expected and I hope that your return trip on your fishing boat was a comfortable one.

Regards
Paul & Louise

We had a great relaxing holiday over Christmas and New Year staying at the High Street Living Motel, Picton. The new owners where great hosts and where very helpful with us sorting our boat out. We are new boat owners and pretty novice, so thanks Paul we really appreciate your assistance. Whilst this property is no five star! It is what it is. A very affordable, clean, comfortable and well located place to stay. It is right in the middle of Picton, so handy to shops, bars, beach etc. The best thing for me is that they have a dog friendly unit which means I can take my baby on holiday with me. This young couple are working very hard to refurbish and tidy up the property. I wish you all the best and we will definitely be back.
