You will be treated to excellent fresh cuisine by the host/chef Juliarna and her delightful staff. Our room was tastefully furnished with the decor in subtle calming tones. The bed linen fresh and crisp and the bed extremely comfortable. The hotel is ideal for ferry travelers as it is only 5 minutes to the port, and a perfect location to leave your car in the hotel car park and enjoy the Picton nightlife. For those wanting a touch of luxury then this hotel will not disappoint.

My boyfriend booked this hotel for my 30iest Bday. It was beautiful!
We stayed in the formal suite and I would recommend it for everyone that wants to treat someone special ;) That bath is so Amazing!
After our lovely dinner, my boyfriend proposed to me ;) we got some champagne from the staff and they were so, so amazing to us.
I loved everything about this place!

For our honeymoon my brother very kindly booked us into Escape to picton.
It was well beyond what the web site showed!!!
We stayed in the Modern Suite.
The lounge was decorated beautifully and was very clean and inviting. The fire is a great touch too!
The bedroom had a king sized bed which was not too hard and not too soft.
The 2 person shower and spa were awesome!! My husband who normally tosses and turns all night was asleep with in minutes of getting out of the spa!

We enjoyed our stay so much we are planning to return for my birthday later this year!

I'd read and heard many mixed reviews about this place but we needed a place to overnite before heading out on the QUeen Charlotte track and, with no kids in tow, we thought we'd try it out. We arrived late afternoon and wandered around to the back door, where we were welcomed by Juliearna, the manager and owner. We registered and were shown upstairs to our room, which was an upgrade from the one we had booked. It was quite spectacular.....as a previous reviewer noted, something out of Versailles. We relaxed with a cup of tea and just took in the splendor. It was quite hard to believe we were in Picton.

The photos speak fro themselves but the room was extremely comfortable, well furnished and lovely to be in. The bathroom had a lovely shower and a nice big tub. It felt very luxurious. We didn't fancy a big dinner so popped round the corner for a quick bite before coming back for an early night. The bed was big and comfy.

We had breakfast out in the morning as we had an early start and then headed off. Juliearna and her staff were very helpful and welcoming. The place has an odd vibe...it's almost a bit out of place in its location. If it overlooked the sea with nice gardens, it would be incredible. Opposite the council car park in Picton, maybe not. It's certainly an interesting place to stay and the rooms do justify the price. For those into Louis XIV style, it's a must.

From our arrival to when we left we had an amazing time staying at this beautiful boutique hotel.

We were greeted by friendly staff and the owner and were given champagne on arrival.. a nice touch since it was not expected. After having a lovely chat we went to our gorgeous suite... wow.. it looks exactly like the pictures on the web infact in real life even better! The suite is huge and the sunken french bath my favourite... The bath products supplied were of good quality and nicely perfumed.

We ate in the house restaurant that evening and had a stunning three course meal and lovely wines.. Everything was first class and there was a nice atmosphere throughout. This is a great restaurant to go to even if your not staying at the hotel.

Breakfast in the morning was a full cooked english for me and a great french toast for my Husband again more than we expected since on our internet booking it was for a continental...

We were sad to leave this wonderful place. We will visit again and recommend it anyone who wants 5 star luxury as soon as they get of the ferry!!

Top marks from us and all the best to Juliarna and her team

Ness and Paul

We stayed here on our honeymoon and I'd chosen the Formal room as it seemed very romantic from the pics on the website. As we entered the room we both swore under our breath - it was really impressive. Big room, lovely old fashioned furniture and a decadent bathroom area adjacent to the main room.

Our experience of the restaurant was excellent, albeit empty - I think we must have chosen the quietest weekend in Jan/Feb for our trip, as when we ventured further afield to look for a lively place for a post-dinner drink, we found the rest of Picton equally quiet. Anyhow, back to the food - we both ate surf and turf and it was delicious. I have attached a piccy. The waiter was friendly and we had a lovely, albeit quiet evening.

The other room (the Modern room) was empty during our stay and we did sneakily peek our heads round the door, and it was most impressive. I think my husband may have even preferred it - he's not one for flouncy old fashioned stuff (but I am!)

We had a good chat with the owner on the morning of our departure - she was incredibly buzzy and friendly and chatty - so much so that we almost missed our boat tour ;-)

Yes the hotel is expensive but so is everything in New Zealand (until the British pound perks up) and as it was our honeymoon we'd opted for the loveliest places to stay, and Escape to Picton was indeed very good. The only improvement I could think of is if the hotel was plucked up from its current position and placed on the hills overlooking the harbour, for a better view and a more remote feel.
