Kippilaw House:
Margaret and Bill were the most warm and welcoming hosts we could have asked for! It was teeming down with rain when we arrived at the train station in Picton, only to be immediately warmed by Margaret's smile. She went out of her way to pick us and our luggage up right at the station and whisk us away to the haven that is Kippilaw House. Having had enough of train food, Margaret whipped us up a lovely lunch with hot sandwiches, tea, scones with jam and cream, and cakes. This was just the beginning of a culinary and hospitality delight!

As it was raining so hard, we decided to stay in and peruse the fabulously curated book and magazine collection. The room was superbly comfortable with an adjoining sitting area and other room with couch and television upstairs as well. It was truly like having our own apartment--fabulous!

Another friend joined us for dinner which was no problem at all. Bill played server and Margaret chef. The meal was delicious beyond words and service impeccable. The dynamic duo work seamlessly in every sense of the word team. Breakfast the next morning was extraordinary as well. We could not believe our luck having found the gem of Picton!

Margaret took particular interest in my daughter living on an organic dairy farm and whilst explaining how to make ricotta gave one of the best (and there were many!) one liners of the stay, "If you can't make ricotta, you shouldn't even be let out of the house!" She is a riot, and so very entertaining.

Margaret and Bill are warm, loving, hysterically funny people that are the best hosts you could ask for. The accommodation is spacious and welcoming, and the food is beyond words delicious. Every detail is thought out and perfectly executed. We cannot wait to return to Kippilaw!!!

Well what a review !!!! many thanks we do what we have to, making sure our guests are warm and comfortable and of course well feed while staying with us at Kippilaw House.

I hope your daughter Jayme is churning out the organic cheese big time up north. I would love to hear from her and know how the new cottage industry is going. Winter time us upon us with the house very slow. Bill goes to China and Scotland for 2 months to see family and I will head to the deep south with family for a couple of weeks. I hope your caching a lot of English summer and having fun. Kind wish and we do appreciate your taking the time to write a review on us. Kind wish and happy days.

Margaret and Bill were very gracious hosts. Their home is exquisite and the food they prepared was amazing. My wife and I were there for a one night stop over on our honeymoon. We would highly recommend the Kippilaw House as a place to stay in the Marlborough region.

Bill and Margaret McHugh were wonderful hosts for our recent stay 2 night stay at Kippilaw House. Prior to our arrival, they gave us some great ideas for things to see during our drive from Nelson. We had a lovely, comfy room with a great view of the Picton Marina. Margaret and Bill took excellent care of us and served some delicious meals.

A huge thank you to Bill and Margaret who made our 2 night stay truly wonderful. The bedroom, bathroom and private sitting room were all immaculately clean, welcoming and very comfortable. Margaret's home made packed lunch, breakfasts and a very special anniversary dinner were a delicious delight. Nothing was too much trouble and little touches like home-baked cakes in the room on our arrival was very welcome. Bill was extremely kind in collecting us from the boat after our long and tiring walk along the Queen Charlotte Track and in helping us with our 'considerable' luggage to the station. It was like staying with friends. Thank you again.

Stayed for 3 nights in february. Bill and Margaret are great hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them from booking trips to the sounds etc. The house is very comfortable and charming and the bedrooms stylish and spacious. The best thing though is the food, great tea on arrival, inventive and tasty breakfasts, and the dinner in the evening was excellent. Picton was good too - great walking and kayaking on the sounds. We must go back sometime!

stayed two nights here with Margaret and Bill, who made us feel very welcome in their lovely home. We very much enjoyed chatting with them and our fellow guests, and the wonderful smells which emanated from Margeret's kitchen. Our accommodation was spacious and very comfortable, and they made some good suggestions for things to see and do on our travels, including the seal colony on our route to Kaikoura.
