Margaret and Bill were the most warm and welcoming hosts we could have asked for! It was teeming down with rain when we arrived at the train station in Picton, only to be immediately warmed by Margaret's smile. She went out of her way to pick us and our luggage up right at the station and whisk us away to the haven that is Kippilaw House. Having had enough of train food, Margaret whipped us up a lovely lunch with hot sandwiches, tea, scones with jam and cream, and cakes. This was just the beginning of a culinary and hospitality delight!
As it was raining so hard, we decided to stay in and peruse the fabulously curated book and magazine collection. The room was superbly comfortable with an adjoining sitting area and other room with couch and television upstairs as well. It was truly like having our own apartment--fabulous!
Another friend joined us for dinner which was no problem at all. Bill played server and Margaret chef. The meal was delicious beyond words and service impeccable. The dynamic duo work seamlessly in every sense of the word team. Breakfast the next morning was extraordinary as well. We could not believe our luck having found the gem of Picton!
Margaret took particular interest in my daughter living on an organic dairy farm and whilst explaining how to make ricotta gave one of the best (and there were many!) one liners of the stay, "If you can't make ricotta, you shouldn't even be let out of the house!" She is a riot, and so very entertaining.
Margaret and Bill are warm, loving, hysterically funny people that are the best hosts you could ask for. The accommodation is spacious and welcoming, and the food is beyond words delicious. Every detail is thought out and perfectly executed. We cannot wait to return to Kippilaw!!!
